We're a small, dynamic team of creative designers, account managers, and strategists operating within ShopriteX – the Shoprite Group's innovation hub. Our team produces a wide range of content for the Group's leading brands. From Checkers and Shoprite supermarkets to the award-winning Xtra Savings program and even Sixty60, our on-demand grocery delivery app. We also service Africa's largest precision retail marketing agency, Rainmaker Media.

Our creatives may start the morning writing and designing infographics for Rainmaker sales decks. They may chat through scripts for an Xtra Savings benefit explainer video after lunch, and then end the day editing AI-generated subject lines across retail categories in Airtable – our glorified spreadsheet. In short, we're not afraid of hard work but remain fierce advocates for a healthy work-life balance.
THIS COPYWRITING ROLE ENTAILS BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
- Working with the creative team to create our omnichannel retail content
- Particularly graphic designers, art directors, UX/UI designers and animators
- Integrating closely with the stakeholders to deliver omnichannel retail content
- Particularly proof-readers, project managers, strategists & brand managers
- Interpreting reporting data and creating content and infographics for Rainmaker
- Assisting with concepts and copy ideas for the Sixty60 APP
- Taking responsibility for all written content in any allocated communication projects
- Taking joint responsibility with your project teams for the quality & delivery of work
- Being able to write in different styles taking into account the brand and audience
- Translating a brief and the strategic requirements into a compelling solution
- Unpacking briefs to fully leverage opportunities for highly creative output
- Taking ownership of tasks and the creative process to progress towards deadline
- Understanding creative, artistic and cultural trends & how to apply them to brands
- Being an integral part of ideation and creation - a thought-leader who is impactful
- Being able to impactfully present your team’s work to leaders and stakeholders
- Having the ability to work within a team as well as independently
- Verbal and written command of the English language
- Relevant Copywriting degree/diploma essential
- At least 3+ years' relevant work experience as a copywriter
- Solid understanding of digital platforms in conjunction with traditional channels
- Solid portfolio showcasing both ATL and digital work
- Strong presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office & Teams
- Proficient at juggling both in-office and remote working environments
ADVANTAGEOUS EXPERIENCE & SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:
- Verbal and written proficiency in any additional South African languages
- A proven understanding of retail marketing and advertising
- Experience with trafficking and timekeeping software e.g., Workbook/Chase
- Experience working in cloud-based design platforms like Figma, Invision etc.
- Proficiency with design programmes like Photoshop, InDesign and even Aftereffects
- Knowledge regarding SEO and SEM, as well as AdWords, Analytics, and Reporting
