Millwright - Field Service Technician

Duties & Responsibilities
Job Description:
Installing and Commissioning of Equipment: - Assembling equipment and attachments.
- Connecting equipment to customer-provided utilities.
- Testing machinery to ensure full operational compliance with manufacturer's specifications.
- Conducting machine demonstrations for product and customer’s personnel.
- Introducing customer/technical staff to operation and technical manuals, emphasizing safety procedures.
- Emphasizing the correct usage of manuals.
- Obtaining customer sign-off and returning relevant documentation for filing.
Service and Maintenance: - Performing repairs and service upon customer request.
- Conducting tests, preferably with the product, to ensure job completion according to service or repair request.
- Demonstrating machine operation to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Obtaining customer sign-off on job card/service sheet for invoicing.
Administration: - Preparing quotations.
- Completing job sheets and service sheets.
- Preparing written reports on equipment if required.
- Ensuring spares and components used conform to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Ensuring all work adheres to legislated safety regulations.
Quality Management: - Conforming to Quality Management documentation.
- Assisting in auditing the Quality Management System.
Qualifications
- Must be a qualified Electrician with national accreditation and mechanical experience OR a qualified Millwright.
- 5 years of proven experience in meat, food, or similar machinery is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with a Quality Management System like ISO is advantageous.
Communication and Presentation
- Fluency in English and Afrikaans with strong communication skills.
- Capable of representing Columbit professionally at all customer levels.
- Well-presented and confident.
Flexibility and Availability
- Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and evenings when required.
- Preparedness to spend time away from home, both locally and internationally.
Technical Skills
Proficient in fault-finding, especially with electronic and automation equipment:
- VSD’s
- CAN systems (Profibus, CAN bus, Profinet, Ethernet)
- Safety controllers, relays, and sensors
- Encoders
- Servo motors and controllers
- PLC’s and Input/Output modules
- P&ID systems
Attention to detail in mechanical assemblies:
- Bushes – removal and re-fitment methods
- Linear drives (Ball screws, lead screws)
- Pneumatics (Regulators, Flow restrictors, Valves, Cylinders, etc)
- Belts and pulleys (Alignment, Tensioning, Toothed belts)

- Accurate, self-motivated, and able to take initiative.
- Willingness to learn and work under pressure.
