Job Purpose:
Our client, Cape Five, an international fruit exporter, is expanding and seeking to employ an experienced logistics coordinator to share in the operational logistics responsibilities. The purpose of the role is to optimize use of cold storage, shipping lines and transport to ensure that the company’s budgetary requirements are met and continuously improved.
This includes managing key relationships with packhouses, freight forwarders, shipping lines and all other stakeholders outside of the company. This role will involve working very closely with the commercial department to understand their requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Stock Management
- Oversee stock management, perform ad hoc checks, and resolve queries
- Facilitate onboarding of growers to Agrigate One - Cold Store Logistics Management
- Manage grower deliveries to cold stores so that we remain within our allocation
- Manage steri space at cold stores (including delivering at the optimal cold store)
- Manage any ad hoc requests for cold storage
- Maintain good working relationship with cold stores
- Recognise trends and stay ahead of the curve
- Attend to free time queries
- Forecast vessel and container requirements (short term)
- Have an overview of shipping delays in transit and in port (Identify delays and raise with shipping line to resolve)
- Ensure best trans-shipment options are selected
- Manage shipping line allocations per week, ensure allocations are optimized
- Track containers making use of Agrigate One and shipping line tools to flag routing changes and delays
- Maintain a good working relationship with shipping lines (be informed of any shortages of containers, services)
- Assist stock and logistics coordinator with any air freight or sea freight arrangements if needed
- Maintain good working relationship with all freight forwarders
- Advise forwarders of planning (forecast)
- Arrange any long-distance haulage including rate negotiation
- Assist stock and logistics coordinator with adhoc transport - Reporting
- Compile weekly shipping summary for Monday’s operations meetings
- Compile Container tracking report and share with commercial
- Measurement reports of key logistical KPIs - stock age, stock accuracy, ETAs, delays in port etc
- General reporting of industry figures - Planning
- Assist Logistics Manager with cold storage, shipping & transport planning and solutions
- Be on call and resolve any loading issues on a rotational weekend duty basis.
- Send bookings to forwarders and loading instructions if the stock and logistics coordinator is unavailable
- Assist with any ad hoc reporting as required.
- Report open items to the team at the end of each day
- Stock reporting if Stock and Logistics Coordinator is unavailable
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant degree, preferably in supply chain or logistics management
- At least five years work experience in logistics
