Responsibilities:
• To develop accurate, fully compliant and competitive tenders by ensuring timeous, accurate and comprehensive preparation and completion of tender submission documents according to the tender requirements.
• Searching for relevant tenders on various platforms.
• Attend tender inspections and assess the scope of work and risks.
• Review project drawings and specifications to determine scope of work.
• Prepare quotation requests.
• Quantity take-off from drawings to evaluate accuracy of Bill of Quantities when tendering.
• Compare and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Accurately complete and submit tenders by applying estimating practices within deadlines, to secure profitable contracts.
• Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors following successful award of tender.
• Hand off project and proposals to Operations Teams following the successful award of tender.
• Maintain records and electronic filing system for each tender.
• Continuously update the Supplier and Subcontractor database with new vendors.
Requirements:
• Degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying.
• At least 5 years’ experience as an Estimator at a medium to large construction company.
• Minimum 5 years’ on-site experience in the construction industry. Preferably in the Roads and Earthworks and/or Township services industries.
• Advanced Proficiency of CCS estimating and planning modules.
• Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word & Outlook) and Adobe.
• Sound knowledge of standard contract documentation (GCC, NEC, FIDIC, JBCC) and specifications (SANS/COLTO/COTO).
• Ability to review the tender documentation and identify any potential risk and/or gains.
• Ability to do take offs and prepare sub-contracting and buying schedules
• Implement and manage tender buying for materials and sub-contracting packages
• Able to, from time to time travel to site inspections for tenders which may include overnight stay.
• Strong working knowledge of civil, roads, structural (concrete), mechanical and electrical discipline and the capacity to understand unique project requirements
