We are looking for a dynamic enthusiastic Band 6 Dietitian to join our team of 7 renal Dietitians on a full time, permanent basis. Full Renal specialty training, clinical supervision and wider therapies support will be provided for candidates not familiar with the Renal specialty, but keen to learn new competencies. The post holder will be responsible for the management of patients on the renal inpatient wards, patients on dialysis, as well as carrying a clinical outpatient caseload. The role is one of an expert practitioner who works autonomously as well as part of a team. The SW Thames Renal and Transplantation unit is one of the largest Renal units in the country and is currently working towards integrating with St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to streamline the care pathways of our patient groups. We are happy to reimburse relocation expenses as per our Trust Policy.
Main duties of the job
- Be responsible for the provision of specialist, evidence-based Dietetic renal nutrition services to Low Clearance, Nephrology, Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplantation.
- To provide expert advice to patients, carers, and clinicians regarding the provision of nutritional support for renal patients based on clinical evidence. This will involve nutritional diagnosis and the development of treatment plans and the prescription of dietary treatment and nutritional products.
-To provide highly complex renal nutrition counselling and use of reassurance and motivational skills to overcome barriers to change particularly where there is noncompliance.
- To support more junior members of the renal team in their development, as well as student Dietitians.
-To train and support members of the multidisciplinary team to allow effective use of a nutritional screening tool.
-Ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills to educate the diverse and multicultural renal population with barriers to understanding the essential, highly complex renal advice both on a one to one basis and in groups.
-To make clinical decisions about the appropriate and safe administration of EN (enteral South West London Acute Provider Collaborative nutrition) or PN (parenteral nutrition) to the patient or recommendations as to alternative nutrition support.
- To support with the renal merger with St George's as part of the new hospital build.
