The Senior Design Engineer’s job is mainly to design and develop detailed site plans for solar PV system installation by incorporating the contract specifications, client requirements and government regulations without compromising the constructibility of these designs.
The Senior Design Engineer takes the initial system concept ideas and translates them into fully detailed construction-ready designs. Coordinating with multiple team members and customers, the Design Engineer balances the necessity of a customer solution with the efficiency of standard practices
KRA 1: Full Understanding of Local Electrical Regulations
- Have complete understanding of the Electrical Networks, Grid Code, Earthing Systems, and integration of PV systems with the local grid, manage grid connection applications and agreements.
- Design and size PV systems connected under Net-Metering, Self-consumption/Captive systems, and BESS systems on complex terrains, rooftops, Carparks and prepare Executive Designs.
- Have complete understanding of the local and international standards (IEC, BS, IEEE etc.) applicable to design of the on and off-grid PV systems.
KRA 2: Prepare drawings and set of documents required at proposal stage
- Perform site visits and if necessary, measure up sites where the drawings are not available. Capable of performing desktop analysis and preparing the preliminary site layouts and performance estimates for remote sites.
- Analyse the technical information, including RFP and tenders, and generate the required compiled documents, considering creative and advanced solutions that would reduce cost and time.
- Generate PV layouts/ SLD’s on AutoCAD or other similar software aligned with the guidelines set by International standards
- Prepare bill of materials/quantities, from the PV system design.
- Perform Energy Yield Assessments for complex terrains and rooftops using simulation software as PVSyst, following the rules and guidelines.
KRA 3: Prepare detailed drawings at project stage
- Work with the central engineering team to produce detailed engineering drawings, technical descriptions, technical calculations for the engineering signoffs, construction drawings, drawings for projects licensing, EPC, and execution.
- Analyze the information or inputs given by the power systems team or the Grid operator, regarding Grid Code requirements, PoCC specifications and limitations, Grid support, and design the PV Plants according to that and in full compliance with it.
- Keep up with the procurement team to share the project requirements and aligning the project design accordingly.
- Submit complete interconnection drawings, single/multi line diagrams, bid sets, construction sets, and as-built drawings in addition to coordinating overflow of engineering works with engineering vendors as needed for all solar and battery energy storage projects.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and authorities to ensure the quick approval of drawings compliant with the job requirements and contract.
KRA 4: Perform compliance and quality control
- Perform contractual negotiations with EPC’s regarding engineering, equipment specifications, and performance/testing schedules.
- Review the PV plant equipment: validation and specifications including the PV modules, inverters, LV/MV/HV equipment (switchgear, transformers, cables, protection equipment), tracking PV systems and monitoring systems.
- Be the permanent contact with suppliers for technical discussion on project solutions, alternative solutions, and optimisation of the electrical infrastructures.
- Review the design shared by the contractors/subcontractors and check the compliance with regulations, local grid requirements, international standards, and good engineering practices.
- Have experience of PV systems performance analysis and detailed operational assessment, Knowledge on P90 processes and uncertainties calculation.
