My Client, a JSE Listed Oil and Gas company based in Johannesburg is urgently seeking to employ a qualified CFO on 12 months contract to perm in the future. The role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
The incumbent should have strong financial and business acumen to lead and navigate, along with the rest of the senior management team, the through a challenging rebuilding phase of its business.
Reporting to the CEO, the primary purpose of this role is to lead and direct the financial responsibilities of the Company and to oversee continuing obligations of the Company with respect to its listing on the JSE. The CFO has responsibility for managing financial sustainability, driving financial performance, and maximising return on investment. The role will provide strategic financial advice to the Board of Directors and will play a pivotal role in formulating financial strategy.
In doing so the incumbent has primary accountability for the management and oversight of the internal financial control environment, funds management, financial transaction processing, stewardship, regulatory compliance, taxation, and statutory and JSE reporting requirements. The CFO also has primary responsibility for leading the preparation of the financial components of the Annual Integrated Report and has oversight responsibility of all the local and foreign audit processes of the Group – internal and external (including representing Finance at the Group’s Audit, Risk and Investment Committee).
The CFO will lead the development and delivery of high-quality financial policies, services, and advice that support the Company’s strategic direction, business performance, and financial accountability requirements. This includes strategic project work, such as the effective and efficient integration of additional finance functions into existing structures and processes and supporting M&A activities.
The CFO will also support the CEO in the management of operations .
The incumbent should possess strong financial accounting, financial reporting and management skills and the necessary business acumen to navigate the challenging business. The specific accountabilities of this role is as follows:
Accountabilities
The incumbent will be accountable for:
Financial Strategic Direction and Leadership;
Financial Strategy and Planning: including budgeting, forecasting, contributing to overall strategy and investment prioritisation;
Business Partnering: Role provides critical support to the Group CEO and other business executives and directors;
Financial Management: This includes but is not limited to Working Capital Management/Cash Flow Management, Debt Management, Month-end Close, Procurement, Contract Management, Insurance Management, Cost Control, etc.;
Financial Control: Responsibility to ensure that appropriate systems, policies, processes and procedures are in place across the Group’s operations to monitor and control the allocation and usage of resources;
Risk Management: Identifying risks to the business and ensuring adequate measures are in place to mitigate the occurrence or impact of identified threats to the Group’s operations in accordance with the Group risk management framework;
Performance Analysis: Including but not limited to monthly management accounts and various other performance reports;
Fund Raising: Debt or Equity;
Statutory and JSE reporting: interims and yearly results announcements, annual financial statements prepared in accordance with IFRS, overseeing all audit (internal and external) processes of the Group, overseeing the preparation of the annual integrated report;
Corporate Finance: including foreign exchange management, optimising the balance sheet structure, mergers and acquisitions, corporate actions;
Regulatory Compliance: including ensuring that Delegation of Authority, SARB, SARS, NERSA, JSE, FSB and financial regulatory requirements are met;
Operations support;
Stakeholder and Relationship Management: This includes developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with stakeholders on financial matters; and Performance Management (KPIs) and Coaching and Development of Staff.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
This is a high stress position
Requires the ability to manage the finance function in a cross jurisdictional environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
CA (SA) qualification with 15 years post articles experience preferred.
Must have been in a similar role for at least 5years.
Competencies
Technical Competencies:
Knowledge of petroleum or energy sector and in a listed environment will be preferred;
Strong knowledge of accounting, reporting (IFRS), financial management and taxation practices
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (SARB, SARS, NERSA, JSE, etc.)
Exposure to leading ERP system implementation and specifically optimising business processes;
Knowledge of financial regulations and practices in various jurisdictions that the Group operates
Experience in an audit/ assurance environment;
Financial risk management;
Highly skilled in working with Sage X3, Excel and PowerPoint;
