JOB OVERVIEW
Our client is seeking a Head of Tax and Company Secretarial to lead their tax strategy and company secretarial functions. This role involves overseeing the company’s tax planning, compliance, and reporting as well as ensuring that corporate governance and statutory requirements are met. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Corporate Services and play a crucial role in financial decision-making.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the tax function, including tax planning, compliance, and reporting for all entities within the group.
- Ensure the company adheres to tax laws and regulations while optimizing tax positions.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of all corporate tax returns and related documents.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and regulatory bodies.
- Provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions and new legislation.
- Oversee the company secretarial function, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain corporate records, including minutes of board meetings and shareholder resolutions.
- Advise the board on governance principles and compliance matters.
- Coordinate the annual general meetings and other corporate events.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; a professional qualification such as CA(SA), CPA, or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in tax and company secretarial roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- In-depth knowledge of South African tax laws and international tax principles.
- Experience with corporate governance and compliance in a listed environment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly.
- Proficiency in tax preparation and company secretarial software.
