The purpose of this role is to design high quality, impactful and fully compliant fire protection systems that deliver value for money solutions for the client. In addition, this role will represent design and be the design technical lead in the project teams.
Description
Project Design
•Coordinate design for allocated projects by preparing for project, understanding design requirements, defining preliminary design project timelines, leading project team, and managing delivery of project to standard and deadlines as scheduled and per agreed project plan.
•Participate in project meetings to understand customer and operations requirements by attending, verifying technical requirements and specifications, verifying compliance complexities, discussing project timing and deadlines, and gathering information to share with design team (if relevant) as scheduled and required.
•Lead project design teams by allocating design tasks to team members, defining critical success factors, providing technical guidance and oversight, and integrating all parts of design into final design within deadline.
•Manage project design compliance and quality by reviewing completed designs, verifying against compliance and quality standards and requirements, amending, approving, and submitting for final sign off within deadline.
•Present designs to project teams (sales, operations and technical) by attending meetings, presenting designs, receiving feedback, debating design amendments, and implementing approved changes as and when required.
•Mentor junior design project team members by monitoring design process, providing guidance and technical advice and supporting improved delivery from design team members as required.
•Complete post implementation profit analysis of projects by participating in post project implementation review, evaluating design assumptions versus actual, calculating design costs, developing design recommendations to improve future project profitability and submitting for approval within agreed deadline• Build mutually supportive and responsive relationships with project team members (sales, operations and technical) and customers (professional team/consultant/client) by engaging on project requirements, providing technical, cost management and drawing support and contributing to overall project success at all times and as required
Design
•Complete required CAD designs by receiving specifications, applying design standards and requirements, checking for cost management and value for money and completing design in line with standards and deadlines.
•Calculate hydraulic requirements for cost effective pipe size application by completing design, reviewing water supply parameters and limitations, allocating pipe size, checking accuracy, completeness, and cost effectiveness, and applying to design within deadline.
•Complete site measurements for existing building designs by scheduling appointments, receiving building plans (if available), gathering required tools and equipment, visiting site, completing measurements, taking notes on and photographs of areas that impact design and file electronically to support accurate design within deadline.
•Apply compliance and cost management requirements to designs by maintaining compliance expertise, applying to designs, and checking for accuracy, completeness, and alignment before submitting for sign-off.
•Manage design work plan by receiving allocated work, scheduling into weekly work plan, prioritising in line with project deadlines and delivering by the agreed deadlines.
•Complete partial designs as part of larger design projects by understanding specifications, engaging with other designers on project, designing, making required adjustments to comply with overall project design principles, aligning design with other parts of design, checking for cost management and value for money and delivering to standard and by deadline.
•Engage with clients on designs to secure approval by presenting designs to professional team/ consultants / client, understanding requirements, discussing potential improvements and enhancements, and completing design in line with agreed parameters as required and by deadline.
•Always maintain CAD design and compliance expertise by participating in update forums and workshops, sharing expertise with other designers, and learning from them and researching new enhancements and requirements as required.
•Compile fabrication lists for sign off by receiving approval on design, drafting list of items to be fabricated with fabrication designs, collating, checking for accuracy and completeness and submitting to Team Leader for sign off within deadline.
Design Administration
•Complete project administration by completing tasks, updating project plans, and fulfilling any additional administrative requirements within deadlines and to standards.
•Complete design reports by gathering information, collating, and completing in defined format within agreed deadline.
•Complete administration by filing designs according to filing convention and in filing framework, updating required databases, and fulfilling any other administrative tasks as required and within deadline.
•Manage project design profitability by tracking project costs, identifying opportunities for design project cost management, implementing design improvements, and always tracking design errors and costs monthly and.
•Participate in costing of sales proposals by completing initial designs for proposals, engaging with Estimators to develop pricing, and discussing design improvements and cost management options as required and within agreed deadline.
•Submit ASIB documentation for inspections on completion of the project by collating required documentation, checking for compliance, submitting to ASIB authority (within the company), resolving any queries, and gaining ASIB certification within deadline.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Revit qualification
• ASIB / IFE Certificate or similar is required
• Should a qualification not be available, significant relevant experience will be accepted.
