Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Ensure that open pit medium-term mine plans and designs are such that the execution plans support & adhere to safety regulations and environmental requirements. Interpret and understand the mine strategy and LoA plan to inform and provide medium term plans and Mine Activity Designs (MAD) to meet the requirements of the operation. Support the Chief Mine Planner to deliver business requirements. Review and optimise medium-term mine plans to ensure effective and efficient extraction sequences and strategies aligned to available site resources and meeting technical constraints of the mine. Integrate the mine specific production processes, activity durations & operational performances into the mine planning, forecasting and budget processes. Develop appropriately detailed mine plans and outputs, presentations, and reports to ensure the mine, the business and Group have required information, intelligence to meet business requirements. Recommend appropriate mining equipment and machinery based on the mine plan’s requirements and operational effectiveness to ensure the mine is designed and configured to achieve Best Practice performance and support a pathway to P950 using AAOM Principles. Provide and maintain a high level of proficiency and skill in mine design and optimisation software packages. Support the Chief Mine Planner with maintaining planning standards and audits compliance. Review the scheduled short-medium term open pit plans in collaboration with the Section Manager: Operational Planning and Business Unit teams to ensure that Annual and Quarterly plans are achievable. Stay updated on mining industry trends, technologies, and best practices toward mine design, technical and planning approaches to relevant mining method. Seek opportunities to enhance mine planning processes and operational efficiency. Monitor the quality, effectiveness, and execution of medium term mine plans to ensure constant improvement in quality and correctness of medium term and BP planning outputs. Ability to apply basic theory of constraints thinking with regards to mining value chain and identify bottlenecks. Determining new production parameters to achieve the business throughput targets (tonnes and ounces). Review comprehensive project evaluations and project planning. This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Chief Mine Planner.
Qualifications: Degree in B.Eng. Mining/B.Sc
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
More than 5 years relevant experience Site based mining engineering experience in operations Proficient knowledge in mine planning and superior developed understanding of mining systems and technical enablers, with a track record of developing and successfully implementing strategies. Extensive operational, technical and mine planning experience that demonstrates successful application of mining engineering fundamentals. Proficiency in applying practical mining skills and experience into mine planning intelligence, solutions and initiatives to enhance value and maximise delivery effectiveness in our open pit mines Software Proficiency in Deswik (CAD, Sched & LHS) or other relevant Open Pit Planning & Scheduling packages Demonstrated ability to function in a high performance and agile environment with cross-functional stakeholders
