Job Description
A leading International IPP is looking for a Design Engineering Manager to lead the design of their Solar PV Facility; as well as manage the performance of the Engineering Team, and support the Construction Director to deliver a fully commissioned and tested facility.
Key Requirements:
•Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
•A minimum of 12 years’ experience in engineering and design; with extensive experience on Solar PV and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems projects
•Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering principles. A broad knowledge of recognized South African and European design codes.
Your key responsibilities will include:
•Having detail knowledge of the Power Purchase Agreement, EPC Contract, O&M Agreement and various Project Agreements/permits/consents and manage the stakeholders effectively in line with the contracts
•Leads the IPP Engineering team in all disciplines of Engineering and Design.
•Defines a review strategy (base line) in collaboration with the Owners’ Engineer (OE).
•Assures multidisciplinary coordination in collaboration with the Owners’ Engineer.
•Liaise with Economic Development Manager to ensure the design delivers the committed ED obligations.
•Organizes internal weekly coordination meeting with OE and the EPC with its Engineering Consultant.
•Leads internal (topic review/coordination) meeting.
•Develops and maintain cooperative working relationship within the team.
•Assures the coherence of the technical concept towards of the EPC contract in collaboration with the OE.
•Assists/ leads topics / close out meetings with the EPC contractor.
•Mitigates any engineering & design risks.
•Day to day engineering decisions & implementation of long & short term plan, catch up plans, etc.
•Extends full support to Project Director and act on any engineering & design defect and forewarn on deficiencies both in the contracts and the ones which cannot be managed through contractual requirements.
•Timely management and posting of Engineering reports, Management Information Reports.
•Timely Highlighting of Key Issues & concerns along with probable solutions / options.
•Bring in best practices of other PV/BESS projects and take up possible incorporation in the design stage itself.
•Ensure that reliability, safety and quality aspects are focused and part of the plant design.
•Supports the Project team in the discussion related to technical issues for which the EPC contractor either claims variation orders or disagrees.
