Responsibilities
To assist in the screening of self-pay patients to secure potential third party benefits and/or coverage. Represents and assist patients and/or families in applying for benefits under State, County and Hospital programs.
Review all self-pay admissions daily for financial coverage; investigate for third party coverage. Ensures patient demographic and insurance information is correct in the system. Visit inpatients designated as Self-Pay daily, screening for insurance coverage and possible Medicaid, QHP (Qualified Health Plan) and Health Solution applications as required following Department of Social Services, New York State and Hospital Policies. Complete and mail all Medicaid applications following the Department of Social Services guidelines. Enter documentation of application processed in Meditech custom defined fields. Follow up with the Department of Social Services on all patients with a pending Medicaid Application. Make phone call to patients as required based on documentation or phone call received from Department of Social Services in request for additional documents. Process all responses received from Department of Social Services and State Marketplace in Meditech. Complete all Health Solution applications according to Hospital Charity Care Policy. Maintain and process New Born List received from State. All accounts should be reviewed for proper insurance coverage and send LOI’s as necessary to Department of Social Services. Mother as well as new born Medicaid should be checked for eligibility. Compile a Pending application trial balance on a monthly bases in order to follow-up on open accounts. Completed Trial balance should be forwarded to Manager by the last Monday in each month for review. Perform clerical duties, as demanded by the position. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum High School Diploma or GED required; Minimum Associate Degree in Business Field (preferred); Excellent customer service skills; Strong communication skills; Knowledge of Word and Excel; Proven analytical skills and problem solving; Minimum of 1 year experience in processing Medicaid applications; Certified Application Counselor Certification required upon hire or must be obtained within 90-day probationary period for continued employment; Preferred experience in Hospital Business Office; Bilingual preferred – English and Spanish
