MECHANICAL DESIGN AND ENGINEERING

• Drive innovation and cost reduction
• Give guidance (or facilitate) to client, project engineers, external consultant engineers and inspectors on equipment, plant and packaged units on basic engineering matters. Coordinate review of all engineering aspects of supplied vendor/contractor’s drawings and documentation.
• Co-ordinate with Engineering Department and/or contractors and ensure Pr.Eng certified documents are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
• Commissioning assistance to start-up and commission newly constructed or refurbished plants
PROJECT ENGINEERING
• Coordinate different engineering disciplines in a project environment
• Responsible for preparation and approval of project related documents and engineering notes in conjunction with the Engineering Department.
• Ensure that project engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with company procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.
• Review and approve vendor/contractor documents for equipment/plant and distribute and/or squad check with engineering department.
• Definition and generation of mechanical, civil and other subcontracts. There-after management of such appointed subcontractors. From inception to procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning
• Assist, support and manage the site manager(s) for mechanical, civil and other works contracts with regards to planning and execution.
SUB CONTRACTOR, SUPPLIER & SITE INTERFACES
• Generation of technical specification for vendor packages
• Handle Technical Queries during fabrication or construction
• Regular site or shop visits to inspect and verify progress of work
• Punching and snagging of construction & site work
• Prepare commercial documentation, RFQ’s, notes and requirements on assigned projects
• Lead commercial adjudication of supplier proposals
• Attend coordination meetings and project engineering review meetings with vendors of major equipment and plant as required.
• Review document requirements with vendors/contractors and assist Procurement Department in compiling Vendor Document Requirement forms
QUALITY
• Assist with generation of Quality requirements and QCPs for vendor work
• Interpretation of client & contractual specifications as well as specifying of NDT requirements
• Inputs to new vendor evaluations and facility visits / audits
• Inputs and support of quality, health and safety and environmental systems
• Perform inspections and witness factory/site acceptance testing where required. Ensure that equipment, plant and packaged units manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning and hand-over to operations and/or client are complete in accordance with the approved project schedule, standards and within allocated budget/schedule.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
• Deputise for the Project Manager when requested
• Review and approve project schedules with the Project Manager to see that all dates, rates of progress and engineering periods are realistic.
• Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Manager.
• Provide information where necessary to estimating the cost of contract changes, Alert the Project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change.
• Keep abreast of development in the projects engineering field.
• Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects.
• Assist in the training and knowledge transfer of engineering and projects expertise to company personnel as required.
BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE, QUALFICATIONS & FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES
• BSc (Mechanical) / B Eng. (Mechanical), with 4-8 years’ experience.
• 1-3 years’ minimum experience in project engineering and management.
• 1-5 years’ minimum experience in water treatment field will be advantageous.
• Valid Drivers Licence
• Professional Engineering (Pr.Eng - ECSA)
• Experience in medium to large scale projects
• Experience pertaining to mining installations and operations
• Knowledge in chemical and water treatment plant and equipment design / fabrication / testing / installation / commissioning
• Knowledge in chemical plant and equipment project engineering
• Mechanical Engineering 3-6 years’ minimum experience
• Project Engineering and Management 1-3 years’ minimum experience
• Water Treatment field will be advantageous 1-3 years’ minimum experience
