A leading aluminum manufacturing company situated in Richards Bay is urgently seeking the expertise of an experienced Operations Manager to join their team.
Responsibilities
The Operations Manager reports directly to the Managing Director and is responsible for coordinating and leading the development and execution of strategies and operational activities of the Workshop, Warehouse, Projects, Engineering, Safety and Quality teams. This role sets the context for the output team to ensure their combined efforts are directed towards the delivery of the strategic plan of the company. A major focus of this role is to manage people and systems to achieve the best possible outcomes while achieving safety, environment, quality and cost objectives. Deliver accountabilities within budget Ensure that monthly cost review meetings are held for both projects and the workshop Identify opportunities for improvement and prioritise these improvements and define projects Establish an annual capital plan for your areas to both sustain and enhance processes Compile annual budget for area and monitor expenditure against plan and report on variance Monitor the cost and effectiveness of daily production activities Ensure effective and efficient deployment and utilisation of all resources Accountable for the overall HSEQ Management at the local subsidiaries and at the client, sub-contractor and supplier sites Accountable for the implementation of the HSE Management System in line with ISO and OSHA standards Ensure controls are in place that protect own and others’ health and safety, the environment and the plant Coach your team to reinforce safe practices as well as promptly correcting unsafe practices Ensure all HSEQ incidents are responded to, reported and investigated in a timely manner Has the ability or has been a legal appointment (16.2)
Requirements
Degree in Operations Management, Engineering or similar field Green belt or Lean Master training certification is desired Safety and/or Quality certification Solid computer literacy SAP exposure will be advantageous Management/Leadership Training Lean Six Sigma training advantageous Minimum of 8 years technical experience and management responsibility in a heavy industrial operation, projects/manufacturing/engineering workshop environment Previous experience in managing Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Previous experience at executive management level is preferred, with sound leadership skills (including the ability to mentor and coach others) Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team with an inclusive management style Demonstrated ability to plan and manage self and others in a dynamic work environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement Actively displays consistent behaviour that demonstrates commitment through actions to the values Strong negotiating skills to influence individuals in key positions both within and external to the organization Knowledge of statutory, corporate and local regulation and policies
