The main purpose of a Marine Manager is to oversee and coordinate all activities related to marine operations within the company. This role ensures the smooth, efficient, and safe running of maritime projects and operations.
Supervisory Role:
Effectively supervising staff. Conduct formal performance appraisals. Manage non-performance in line with the appropriate procedures and/or in conjunction with HR. Manage performance and employee relations matters of the team. Ensure that employees are using their time effectively and efficiently. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, with active participation from team members. Provide training and guidance to workers to enhance their skills. Assess the performance of team members and provide constructive feedback. Identify and implement KPI’s for employees
Project Management:
Prepare, supervise, and control project activities. Keep track of the project’s status and ensure it adheres to the schedule and budget. Ensure the work is completed to the stipulated quality standards. Ensure that all materials needed for projects are ordered and available when needed. Allocating and managing resources efficiently, including manpower, equipment, and materials. Ensuring optimal utilization of resources to meet project demands. Keep accurate records of work hours, materials used, and work completed.
Financial Management:
Ensure minimal variance between actual and budgeted costs. Aim to achieve a notable reduction in operational costs annually. Monitoring costs and implementing cost-saving measures where possible. Negotiate supplier contracts to achieve the best prices and terms.
Risk Management:
Identifying and mitigating risks to ensure smooth operations. Ensure all projects have contingency plans in place.
Client Relationships:
Building and maintaining strong client relationships. Ensure high client satisfaction scores. Implement and maintain regular feedback loops with clients. Identify and nurture potential future projects and partnerships. Maintain strong, reliable relationships with key suppliers. Ensuring effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders.
Reporting & Documentation:
Preparing regular reports on project status, team performance, and other relevant metrics. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date project documentation. Prepare detailed weekly reports summarizing the progress of ongoing projects including key milestones achieved, work completed, and any deviations from the project plan. Highlight any issues, risks, or delays encountered and the mitigation steps taken in the reports Maintain updated asset register for division on a monthly basis
Quality, Health & Safety Management:
Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements. Verify that all work meets or exceeds the quality standards set by the company or project stakeholders. Participate in toolbox meetings. Reporting on quality management and KPIs. Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost savings and other improvements. Promoting a culture of safety within the team and on project sites.
Adhoc Tasks:
Perform irregular, one time and special request tasks related to the company. Perform activities as stand-in for colleague or supervisor as required from time to time.
Job related work experience:
At least 5-10 years’ supervisory experience and 2 years in a supervisory position managing a division within the automotive field. Project Management Experience: Computer skills Valid driver’s licence
Job related formal training:
MS Office automotive Certifications, Safety and Compliance Training, Project Management Training
Level of Education:
Trade tested as a Marine Diesel Mechanic.
