Job Description
A leading organisation is looking for a Fire Master to join their team. The main purpose of the role is co-developing, executing and monitoring the efficacy of underground and surface fire prevention and mitigation programmes while ensuring effective installation and area inspections, audits and application of remedial measures.
Responsibilities:
Actively participate in and lead operational safety, health, environmental and risk management campaigns ensuring demonstration of Purposeful Visible Felt Leadership. Conduct regular safety and risk management inspections and audits to proactively eliminate and mitigate operational risks. Participate in and lead safety and related incident and accident investigations ensuring the implementation and monitoring of remedial actions. Conduct legal inspections and audits in accordance with the MHSA regulations and company standards and, prepare and deliver reports in accordance with legislative and operational standards. In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholder and peer groups, develop and implement fire prevention, mitigation and emergency response plan and strategies and, minimum standards for fire suppression systems and related equipment. Schedule, conduct and record routine inspections and maintenance of firefighting equipment, systems and installations ensuring compliance with defined specifications and standards. Compile and maintain relevant Mandatory Code of Practices, procedures and standards relating to emergency response and the prevention of fires at the mine. Contribute towards the formulation of annual working cost and capital budget formulation and, manage operational cost efficiencies in areas of accountability.
Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent. Certificate in Mine Environmental Control or Artisan Trade Certificate. Auditing background and experience with qualifications in COMSOC 1 & 2 or equivalent. Recognised qualification in Firefighting Engineering with 3 years’ experience as Fire Master in an underground mine. Relevant First Aid Certification. Knowledge of relevant legislation:National Building Regulations Act of .Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of .Knowledge of the applicable SANS – South Africa National Codes and Standards.
