Teach The Nation is a global NPO and network partner for Teach For All in South Africa. As part of this global movement, we develop leaders that transform the education system from within and through classroom impact - we call them Fellows. Our youth leaders/Fellows are hand-picked, not only from within the education system but also from critical skills backgrounds such as engineering and other relevant professions.
Main Purpose of the Job:
To support the strategic development and maintenance of fundraising efforts at Teach The Nation by designing, implementing, evaluating and refining the organisation's development activities. This candidate would be able to personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects in accordance with performance targets set in collaboration with management. They would also be involved in the regulating and preparing of all relevant documentation. In 2 years, this person would likely look to be leading our business development team.
Job Requirements
Job-related Experience:
2-3 years experience as a Development Officer, or in a similar position Experience working in the academic sector is a benefit Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field Strong experience drafting proposals Strong experience managing the development and maintenance of a fundraising pool.
Job-related Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:
Demonstrates an ability to secure major funds and partnerships from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources. Demonstrates an affinity towards planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes. Has strong proposal writing and implementation. Showcases interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, partners, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles. Has the ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives. Database management skills. Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Has the ability to exercise good judgment, by demonstrating an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and using discretion in interactions with donors, partners, and others. Demonstrates organizational skills and has experience in managing strategic development plans and marketing, along and other complex activities in support of development objectives. Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment. Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
