ABOUT HILLSIDE:
Our Hillside Aluminium smelter in Richards Bay produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As a Specialist Health, Safety, Environment & Risk you will be responsible to support the successful delivery of the Hillside HSER Strategy at departmental level. The purpose of the role is to assist departmental Line Managers with effective execution of HSER deliverable to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements and continual improvement in departmental HSER performance.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
• Develop and implement departmental HSER related Standard Operating Procedures; • Interface with departmental leadership to ensure departmental alignment with the overall Hillside HSER business plan and deliverables; • Develop, maintain, and review departmental baseline risk registers; • Monitor compliance to required controls, procedures, and applicable legislation; • Analyze trends and report to line Managers; • Drive proactive hazard reporting and event investigations to ensure quality outcomes; • Challenge line on identified gaps (e.g. reporting, safety standard compliance, risks etc.); • Audit and verify the effective implementation of controls and compliance to legal and other requirement.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
• Must have minimum of 5 years’ experience in HSE management in a heavy industrial environment; • Experience in ICAM methodology is advantageous; • In depth knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, No 85 of 1993 is advantageous;
Qualifications for this role are:
• Serious contenders will have a Degree / B-Tech/ National Diploma in Health & Safety or Environment.
