Hire Resolve’s client in the Engineering industry is urgently seeking the expertise of a Structural/Civil Business Unit Lead in Pretoria/Johannesburg.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to the Structural/Civil Division Provide technical guidance to Structural Engineers Manage and oversee projects undertaken by Civil Engineers Team and project organisation structuring Business development Commercial and financial management of team and projects Stakeholder management and needs analysis Win new work by leading all aspects of bids leveraging relationships with public and private clients and consulting partners Lead project execution in respect of technical delivery, pricing, resource balancing, change management, budget control, and maintenance of as-bid margins Technical approval of designs, assessments, and calculations in accordance with quality procedures Communicate verbally and in-writing with clients via meetings, reports, and virtual platforms in the interests of project progress and by resolving conflict as it arises Review project performance through governance mechanisms and lead the team to “course correct” as project issues arise Develop staff with a particular focus on developing a layer of middle management, mentorship of junior engineers toward registration, and growing the digital skill set of staff to industry-leading standards
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (B Eng / BSc Eng / B Tech Eng) Professional Engineer/Technologist (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng with ECSA) A minimum of 10 years post graduate experience in a multi-disciplinary environment gained from client, consultant, and/or contractor perspective Minimum of 10 years’ structural experience within the Built Environment industry with at least 5 years leading a team of 10 or more staff in your own practice or a business unit in a larger firm An accomplished technical Team Leader with the ability to support, mentor, and develop less experienced engineers Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels Professional registration with relevant Project Management bodies (ECSA, SACPCMP, and/or PMI) Previous track record in successfully generating new business Ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders at all levels Computer literacy in MS Office Sound structural engineering knowledge and experience in reinforced concrete, structural steel, and load-bearing masonry design An intimate working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, and Microsoft Project Be well acquainted with local contractors Must be a team player at all times and lead/support the team with integrity and respect An awareness and appreciation for health, safety, and environmental issues Strong project management skills (PMBOK) will be an advantage Leadership skills, motivated, and disciplined Flexible approach and multi-tasking abilities Problem solver and innovator
