Job Description
A world-leading Consulting firm with offices around the globe are looking to recruit a Head of Power for South Africa and India.
You will be a key member of their growing Power and Renewables team, and you will be responsible for leading the South Africa and India based team, its delivery of work and driving new business to grow the team, capabilities and revenue.
You will be expected to focus on winning and delivery of projects offering a suite of power-related services including independent engineering, owner’s engineering, performance, energy storage, grid, and connection services for domestic and international clients drawn from lenders, developers, owners, investors and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for the local cost centre including all P&L aspects of the activities within the power division. You will work closely with other geographical and technical areas within the company to support the global aspirations of their business.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
•A minimum of a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, etc.
•Be Professionally Registered (PrEng or CEng)
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Essential
•A minimum of 10 years of experience in a relevant related discipline (may include post-graduate studies if applicable);
•Extensive experience in a power and renewables and engineering;
•Track record of successful management of project teams and projects in a relevant field, such as engineering consultancy or EPC;
•Consulting engineering experience;
•Strong experience, both technical and commercial, of how energy assets are developed, constructed, operated and financed
•Strong level of experience reviewing EPC or multi-contract, O&M, grid connection, etc. contracts, including review and drafting of technical specifications and contract negotiations;
•Review of civil, electrical and structural designs, studies, permitting grid, H&S documentation either directly or with support of other specialists;
•Energy site presence (e.g. PAC/FAC witnessing);
•Competitive proposal preparation for energy BESS projects;
•Energy system tendering, including preparation of tender pack, bidder clarifications and bid evaluation
Advantageous
•Static and dynamic power system studies;
•Design and specification of HV substation equipment;
•Grid network engineering for renewables projects and micro-grids;
•Grid network/infrastructure planning;
•Energy system design (electrical, layout etc.);
•Experience working for IFIs;
•Experience of project development on a number of successful projects;
•Responsibility for planning applications for energy projects;
•CAD design.
Minimum Knowledge Requirements:
•Knowledge and experience of providing Power/Renewables consultancy services to owners, lenders, developers, operators or other stakeholders
•Managerial experience in coordinating people in a project environment
•P&L responsibility
•Commercial/contractual experience in respect of Power/Renewables projects
•Some knowledge of planning application processes and requirements;
•Basic knowledge of each of: onshore wind, offshore wind, solar PV;
•Comprehensive knowledge of at least one of: onshore wind, solar PV.

•Advanced IT skills, including software Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.
•Proficient with modern simulation software and electrical circuit modelling tools e.g. PSS/E, DigSILENT Powerfactory, ETAP, ERACS etc.; would be an advantage;
•Experience with software script writing, e.g. Python, would be an advantage;
•Experience of EMT simulations using PSCAD or similar, including insulation coordination studies; would be an advantage;
•Experience of RMS dynamic modelling of generator controllers, statcoms, WTGs and HVDC systems; would be an advantage;
•Advanced software skills including PVSyst, WindPro, GIS packages, AutoCAD (or equivalent), HOMER, etc. would be an advantage;
