Job Description
A large consulting company with offices internationally and across South Africa is looking for a Senior Rock Engineer to join their growing team in Johannesburg.
Minimum requirements:
•Must have a degree in either Rock Mechanics, Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
•MSc will be advantageous.
•Must be registered as Professional Engineer
•Extensive mining experience essential
•Minimum of 15+ years’ experience either as a consultant or working for a mining company in the field of rock engineering
•Open pit mine and/or underground investigation and/or design experience a must.
•Understanding of African clients in the mining industry
•Experience in developing rock mechanics models.
•MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
•Working predominately on projects concerned with rock mechanics, including support and mine design.
•Open pit mine investigation and design
•Collation and analysis of geotechnical data
•Geotechnical report writing
•Provide technical expertise on mining projects concerned with soft and hard rock engineering, such as strata control and my design.
•Manage consultancy project within open pit and underground rock engineering.
•Provide technical and project management expertise in the following areas: research, instrumentation, stress measurement, monitoring, numerical modelling, risk management, underground safety audits, design methods, training, and technology transfer
•Developing new business and building upon existing and prospective client relations within Business Unit.
•Developing techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems within the mines, often conducting site visits to resolve these issues.
•Ensuring compliance with HSSE procedures and protocols
•Management of drilling contractors
•On-site supervisory role for geotechnical investigation projects for open pit mines
•Continued development of key skills in Project Management
•Deliver quality, on time, and within budget.
