Position Overview
This role is located at Tronox's Namakwa Sands Northern Operations (mining, concentration, and separation facilities) on the west coast of South Africa. The ideal candidate will apply their talent, enthusiasm, and expertise in managing projects that will maximize the value in the production of Safe, Quality, Sustainable, Low-cost Tons.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage projects across its life cycle and ensure projects are delivered within approved scope, time, and budget Define project scopes and objectives and develop project business cases with stakeholders Develop comprehensive scopes of work and effectively control scope changes to a minimize project delays Develop detailed work breakdown structures, project plans and budgets, and revise accordingly to meet changing project needs Perform project cost control to ensure monthly cash-flow forecasts comply with accuracy requirements Perform quality assurance, planning and control to ensure projects are aligned to quality policies, procedures, strategies, and objectives Track project performance against baselines, apply adequate corrective actioning techniques to manage poor project performance and compile monthly progress reports Perform risk management to effectively identify, analyse, respond, monitor, and control project risks to limit project performance impacts Compile and present project approval documentation in line with IIP Project Management Methodology across all project phases Ensure project documents and drawings are maintained and stored in the Projects Portfolio Database Develop presentations and facilitate projects and progress meetings to stakeholders and committees Effectively manage project stakeholders, contractors, external consultants, and service providers to ensure enhancement of synergies and limiting disruptions during the project Defining project resource requirements to execute the projects portfolio, manage and develop project resources and teams to achieve project outcomes Perform SHE management in line with Site procedures, policies, and strategies to ensure projects are executed safely Attend site visits, adjudicate tenders, and compile/process tender approval documentation Ensure designs and installations comply with relevant engineering codes and site approved standards to support compliance and consistent, safe, and effectively implemented projects Perform supervision activities, manage construction activities, and resolve conflict/disputes Conduct value engineering during project phases to ensure project constraints are accommodated and to seek alignment with business strategies Continuously improve project methodologies by incorporating value-adding lessons learnt and adopting best practices Assist with the 5-year capital plan, capital budgeting process and prioritization of the project’s portfolio with Site, T&I, Maintenance and Operations Management Provide project management assistance to Site and T&I teams to enhance collaboration and achieve strategic objectives Provide support to Project Leader to ensure departmental objectives, outcomes and strategies are achieved Coordinate processes to ensure project equipment/assets are placed onto the site maintenance programs and the organization’s fixed asset register
Qualifications & Experience
B. Eng / BSc. Eng / Btech Engineering or equivalent NQF Level 7 (Mandatory) Minimum 5 years’ role specific experience within a heavy industry / mining / mineral or chemical processing / production environment (Mandatory) Minimum 5 years Management / Supervisory experience (Mandatory) Project Management Qualification (Advantageous)
Knowledge & Skills
Working knowledge of a Project Management Methodology (Agile, PMBOK, etc.) Working knowledge of engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) and standards Working knowledge of the Construction Regulations (OHS Act and Regulations) Change Management skills Leadership skills Conflict resolution skills Risk management skills Performance management skills Good planning and organizational skills Attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects and elements simultaneously Ability to work under pressure Ability to interpret medium to long term production requirements Ability to set, monitor, evaluate and achieve project objectives/targets Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills Facilitation of meetings Working knowledge of SAP, MS Office, etc. Working knowledge of capital budgeting and management processes Working knowledge of a Projects Portfolio Database (EPPM, Planview, etc.) Working knowledge of supply chain and contract management process
