Group Remuneration & Benefits Specialist - Gauteng, Rosebank
Reports to: Lead Compensation & Benefits
ROLE OVERVIEW:
The role is at a tactical level and is a key member of the Human Resources team. The role is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization's compensation and benefits programs. This role requires a strong compliance-driven approach, ensuring all programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with both market standards and the company's strategic goals. The role is responsible for job structuring, job profiling, job evaluation, market benchmarking, and position benchmarking, with a focus on maintaining regulatory compliance and promoting fair pay principles. The role drives critical rewards processes that are aligned to a performance-driven culture. The role is also responsible for regular market benchmarks and the optimization of compensation and benefits structures and programs across the organization, ensuring they are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with our strategic goals. Responsible for analysing compensation data to highlight risks, non-compliance gaps and inform policy change requirements. Drive and cultivate strong benefits administration processes through vendors and site HR professionals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Global Remuneration / Benefits Practitioner Qualification
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years Employee Benefits and Remuneration experience
- Minimum 3 years general HR experience
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable local laws pertaining to benefits
- Knowledge and understanding of payroll and systems
- SAP HCM & Success factors
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel with emphasis on Power Pivots and any other analytical tools

- Ability to maintain sensitive, confidential information and exercise discretion and sound judgement

KEY OUTPUTS:
- Present, document, administer and apply policies, procedures, practices and programs resulting in consistent and repeatable application of Paterson evaluation methodology, grading and techniques to establish equitable compensation rates within the organization
- Conduct surveys and study labour markets across the industry to determine market trends.
- Design, implement, and manage compensation and benefit programs
- Conduct analysis of compensation and benefits within the company
- Prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions and salary scale
- Oversee competitive analysis, merit increases and salary structure
- Analyze surveys to ensure appropriate compensation across all departments
- Educate, mentor and train HR staff on processes and best practices
- Compile forecast budget for salary increases
- Compile forecast and provisions for Short Term Incentives & Long Term Incentive Programs
- Regularly reconcile and administer Long Term Incentives
- Consult with internal business partners to assess benefits, compensation and compliance needs
- Oversee day to day retirement fund activities
- Participate in the Retirement Fund Board and act as nominated Employer Trustee
- Advise on salary increase requests supported with robust market benchmark and internal equity evaluations
- Conduct Job Evaluations and support committee activities
- Research job and worker requirements, structural and functional relationships amongst jobs and occupations and occupational trends
- Advise managers and employees on employment regulations, benefits and compensation policies
- Manage the annual salary review process and incentives calculations
- Perform and participate in remuneration and benefits survey
- Prepare and drive annual salary increase cycle and supporting processes with business
- Prepare and drive annual STI cycle and supporting processes with business
- Validate remuneration and/or benefit increase proposals received from managers.
- Administer share allocations
- Administer the commission cycle and process (for sales consultants).
- Ensure compliance with Industry and Regulatory Bodies
- Provide administrative support for the administration of various employee benefit plans and programs
- Coordination of yearly annual enrolment for all benefits.
- Update benefits information and deductions with regards to payroll, ensuring that information and deductions are accurate and implemented in a timely fashion
- Receive and respond to inquiries from employees, as well as other stakeholders
- Retain current, accurate, organised and accessible records;
- Run reports and review to ensure accuracy of information
- Prepare board notes in preparation of company Retirement Fund Board meetings
Support requirements to be submitted to Rewards and Talent Committee (Subcommittee of the Board)
Ensure all forms from various benefit providers are updated and current;
- Implement best practice administrative processes and train all relevant HR staff
- Draft and issue correspondence to staff regarding changes / updates to all benefits
- Attend meetings to keep current and informed of various benefit changes during the plan year;
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures concerning employee benefit plans
- Ensures preparedness for internal audits and other program compliance requirements
- Serve on various benefits related project teams
- Works with internal contacts such as Trustees and Payroll to ensure efficiencies and issue resolution
- Provide updates to Head Group Remuneration & Benefits on issues requiring additional support or intervention
- Review all new hire benefit elections and review any supporting documentation provided for dependent eligibility and evidence of insurability requirements
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefit processes
- Annual Benefit Statements checked and distributed annually
