Enrolled Nurse- Surgical and Theatre Ward

Education, Qualifications and Experience :

- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 and Registration with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse essential.

- Minimum one year extensive experience in a Medical Ward will be advantageous.

- Enrolled as an Enrolled Nurse with the SANC.

- Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all appropriate health care legislation.

- Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.

- Ability to implement and maintain standards of health. Sound knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.

- Knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.

- Must have the emotional intelligence to understand people and recognize their care needs.

- Must have a high attention to detail and enjoy being organized.

- Able to collaborate effectively with others to help accomplish work goals.

Responsibilities :

Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

- Assist with activities of daily living, administer medications, and provide health education to contribute to the management of acute and chronic health conditions, improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

- Promote patient overall health and wellbeing by establishing and maintaining good working relationships and effective communication with patients regarding their care, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Action area:

Assessment of patients' basic needs: Hygiene and physical comfort, promotion of exercise, rest and sleep, need for early ambulation, feeding, and elimination.
Planning: Carrying out the nursing care plan under the supervision of the shift leader.
Implementation: Administering oral and intra-muscular medications under supervision of the Registered Nurse, attending to wound care, observing intravenous lines, preparing and receiving patients from theatre, providing immediate post-operative care, ensuring patient comfort at all times, and assisting with hygiene needs.

Enhanced Patient Satisfaction:

- Through a compassionate approach to patient care, Enrolled Nurses help create a positive healthcare environment that fosters trust and satisfaction among patients and their families.

- Address patient needs, concerns, and preferences with sensitivity and respect to contribute to overall patient satisfaction.

- Practice principles of infection prevention and execute procedures according to hospital standards.

Effective Care Coordination and Collaboration:

- Collaborate closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.

- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to facilitate seamless communication and continuity of care.

Patient Safety and Risk Reduction:

- Ensure a safe healthcare environment by adhering to established protocols and monitoring patient conditions.

- Identify and report changes in patient status or safety hazards to prevent adverse events.

Care Planning and Implementation:

- Maintain organization and planning regarding stock control, documentation, and a safe environment free from medico-legal hazards.

- Execute the nursing care plan under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and promote the patient's nutritional status and elimination.

Professional Growth and Development:

- Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance nursing knowledge and clinical competencies.

- Maintain SANC membership by yearly renewal and stay knowledgeable about regulations governing nursing practice.

Positive Impact on Patient Experience:

- Maintain patient satisfaction by delivering competent, compassionate, and patient-centered care.

- Supervise nursing assistants and healthcare workers to ensure best practice nursing standards are followed.
