DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Licenses, permits, registers, certificates, and subscriptions must be actioned on an annual basis.
- Plan audiometry tests to be carried out annually and bi-annually.
- Plan all blood testing to be done in accordance with the lead regulations as well as the company's lead in air policy (POL-504-02).
- Blood tests include: Lead, Haemoglobin, Haematocrit, Urea & Creatinine, and Uric acid.
- Conduct blood testing on all permanent contracting employees as per lead protocol and conduct food handler specific testing on all canteen staff on a yearly basis.
- Ampath accreditation certificate to be renewed every 4 years.
- Annual renewal of calibration certificates for audio booth and sphygmomanometer.
- Plan the restocking of first aid and disaster boxes in relation to orders being placed.
- Liaise with the training personnel regarding first aiders and keep an up-to-date list of all.
- Budget and control of clinic expenses by trying to keep ordering to a minimum.
- Carry out pre-employment, periodic, transfer, and exit medicals when required.
- Lifting equipment medical examinations to be carried out by OHN.
- Lifting equipment eye tests – employees must be sent to the arranged optical provider for vision screening before their license expires.
- Screen employees for the Occupational Medical Practitioner's visits and assist him/her when they are onsite.
- Treat all Injuries on Duty and refer to the hospital for further medical attention where necessary.
- Record all Injuries for monthly reporting and report the more serious injuries to RMA (Rand Mutual Assurance).
- Run daily primary health care clinic for minor ailments and administer appropriate treatment.
- Act as a medical representative on the Safety Committee and in its capacity, control and maintain safety throughout the plant. Attend regular safety meetings.
- In-house first aid training – new first aiders need to have training regarding the administration aspect of RMA documents, protocols, responsibilities, and how to manage an injury after hours.
- Assist with disaster planning from a medical point of view.
- Assist on advice on employee welfare. Coordinate employee assistance programme (EAP).
- Control the ordering and receiving of medication, dressings, and equipment as per dispensing license requirements.
- Handle own correspondence with regard to referral of employees to doctors and support services.
- Maintain good relationships with all employees and managers.
- Induction of new employees regarding the hazards of lead, general hygiene, and company policy on health and safety.
- Compiling and circulating of monthly and annual medical statistical reports.
- Medical waste must be removed regularly and incineration documents placed on file.
- Attend monthly safety meetings.
- Audits – prepare information and take part where necessary.
- Keep up to date with new developments regarding Occupational Health and Safety.
- Assist with Risk Assessment for hazardous substances and implement biological monitoring if deemed necessary.
- Record keeping: Keep all blood results, sick notes, medical, and IOD records for all employees.
- Liaise with all levels of management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Senior National Certificate.
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing Science.
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health.
- Dispensing License.
- Audiometry Certificate.
- Experience: It would be advantageous having a minimum of 3 years related experience.
