Our client, a Food Manufacturer (FMCG) in Johannesburg requires the services of a Factory Manager.
The Factory manager will be responsible for executing the strategy and supporting plans of the business. This position will report to the Operations Executive.
Key Objectives of this Role:
- Ensure all operations are executed in an effective, efficient and cost-effective way
- Improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices
- Oversee the purchase of materials, plan inventory and oversee warehouse efficiency
- Manage operational budgets and forecasts
- Ensure quality control standards are met and monitor production KPIs
People Responsibility
- Develop, design, lead the management team, emphasizing accountability and people effectiveness.
- Foster best practices, create a successful work culture, and build team morale and prosperity.
- Plan structures, implement best practice scheduling, and optimize plant available hours.
Manufacturing
- Lead manufacturing, supply chain, and procurement teams towards achieving strategic targets.
- Develop, design, and implement programs to build efficiencies, create capacities, and reduce costs and wastage.
- Monitor, improve, and report on key performance metrics, asset health, people planning and development, operational opportunities, and efficiencies.
- Asset care and maintenance of all plant and equipment.
Procurement and Supply Chain
- Manage inventory levels and ensure best practices on ordering and management of stock.
- Lead and co-ordinate Procurement team to drive efficiency, cost savings and compliance.
Technical and Compliance
- Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance, including but not limited to food safety, health & safety, quality control, environmental, and asset management.
- Develop technical, analytical, monitoring, and reporting frameworks with related systems and databases.
Financial Management
- Manage all manufacturing costs to enable the lowest cost production and optimal asset utilization.
- Conduct maintenance reviews, capex reviews, and cost of labor analysis.

- At least 6 years as Operations Manager or in a similar role
- Qualification (Degree) in Business Management, Operations Management, or related field preferable
- Knowledge of organizational effectiveness (OEE’s, waste reduction etc.) and operations management

Technical skills and experience:
- Relevant Degree/Diploma in Operations Management or another similar qualification will be required.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the FMCG industry.
- At least 8 years’ experience in an Operations/Production management role, Supplementary advanced training in Food Safety Systems would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of technical processes, procedures, and requirements of food manufacturing processes.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
