Job Summary
To provide application analysis and development. Work with customers and internal colleagues to carry out the technical implementation and configuration of successful high quality SSP solutions.
Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Investigates operational needs and problems, and opportunities, contributing to the recommendation of improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes and organisation. Assists in defining acceptance tests for these recommendations.
- Build and maintain knowledge of SSP Products and how to configure them.
- Configures software of one or more software products.
- Designs, codes, tests, corrects, and documents simple programs, and assists in the implementation of software which forms part of a properly engineered information or communications system.
- Identifies and resolves issues with applications, following agreed procedures. Uses application management software and tools to collect agreed performance statistics. Carries out agreed applications maintenance tasks.
- Communicates effectively with customers by telephone and in person. Assists in the provision of customer service, including technical advice and guidance on matters bearing on the successful use of products and services. Assists in devising solutions to customer requirements and solves straightforward problems.
Accountability:
- To analyse and evaluate queries/defects and apply solutions.
- To deliver configuration to the Customer Specifications.
- To ensure that the technical designs meet business requirements.
- To support the customer and internal colleagues during the implementation of a largely standard packaged application.
- To ensure that Unit testing is completed on each configuration product.
- To understand and apply an application development methodology where appropriate and contribute to the production of the deliverables required at each stage of the project life cycle (e.g. Customer Proposals, GAP analysis, Requirements Definition, and Internal and External Design).
- To participate in the client implementation and installation processes.
- To participate in internal quality reviews of test coverage.
- To prepare system documentation and liaise with Development Teams as required.
- To present formally and informally, progress data and other information to nominated parties including clients and senior SSP management.
- Take ownership for learning.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of HNC in relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications, plus considerable work experience in a relevant role, OR substantial work experience in a relevant role.
- Test Driven Development and Test Practices including Nunit / Xunit/SOAP UI/XML.
- Various programming languages - C# and XSLT.
- Agile Practices.
- Expected to be competent in undertaking a range of technical support activities.
- General Insurance Knowledge in particular General Insurance Products.
- Knowledge of the Insurance industry and its processes and procedures gained through direct experience.
- Practical working knowledge of at least one computer-based Insurance application.
- Demonstrable aptitude for analysing application problems, ideally using a formal analysis methodology, and the building of solutions. (Some knowledge of analysing relational data would be beneficial).
- Experience in working to strict deadlines, both individually and as part of a team.
