Brief Description
Key Responsibilities:
§Support the Dean to provide strategic leadership and effective management of the faculty.
§Oversee the Teaching and Learning portfolio of the faculty, including staff development, development and implementation of academic programs, policies and practices that enhance educational quality and student success.
§Oversee the undergraduate students affairs portfolio, in line with the university’s student’s success framework.
§Enhance student engagement and support services to improve overall student experience and outcomes.
§Drive research excellence by fostering a supportive environment for high-impact research and securing external funding.
§Lead faculty recruitment, development, and performance evaluations to maintain a dynamic and diverse academic team.
§Oversee the efficient management of financial resources and budgets.
§Promote a culture of academic integrity, inclusivity, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
§Represent the Faculty of Health Sciences in local, and international initiatives and establish strong external partnerships.
The successful candidate will be appointed as Deputy Dean for a fixed term of 5 years, which is renewable for another 5 years subject to the applicable policy of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Should the appointee be from outside the University, the appointee will be transferred to a continuous academic post at an appropriate level within the appropriate discipline, at the end of the successful term/s of office.
Qualifications & Experience:
§A or equivalent qualification in a health sciences-related field. A qualification in Health Sciences Education will be an added advantage.
§Relevant experience in academic leadership and administration within a higher education setting, preferably in health sciences.
§Preference will be given to applicants who qualify for a professorial academic rank.
§A distinguished record of research, teaching, and service.
§Demonstrated leadership and management skills with a proven track record of driving academic and operational excellence.
§Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
§A strong commitment to promoting transformation, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Desired Skills:
§Strategic vision and the ability to implement innovative solutions.
§Capacity to inspire and motivate faculty, staff, and students towards shared goals.
§Expertise in curriculum development and academic planning in health sciences.
§Proficiency in financial management and resource allocation.
§A sound understanding of modern educational technologies including Artificial Intelligence.
§Experience in student governance, leadership and support.
Remuneration : Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The package includes provident fund contributions, medical aid, and other benefits relevant to the University.
