JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER Department: Stores Reports To: Store Manager
SUMMARY
An Assistant Store Manager provides support to the Store Manager in the day to day operations of the retail grocery store; is entrusted with keys to the store; promotes the general welfare of the store and assumes full control of the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides excellent customer service. Answers customer’s complaints or inquiries.
Maintains and enforces all company policies and procedures & state and federal regulations.
Arrives on time and as scheduled for work.
Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns associates to specific duties.
Coordinates sales promotion activities and prepares or directs the preparation of merchandise displays..
Maintains a clean and neat store appearance at all times.
Supervises associates’ work; trains associates and performs the work of associates as needed.
Ensures compliance of employees with established security, safety, policies, procedures, sales and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
Takes inventories, orders merchandise, reconciles cash with sales receipts, keeps operating records, and prepares daily record of transactions.
Reconciles inventory records. Investigates and resolves inventory discrepancies.
Responsible for asset protection and management including cash control; merchandise control, bank deposits, and securing the store.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Store Manager, assists with the hiring, training and supervision of subordinates in accordance with the company’s policies & procedures and applicable state and federal regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, subordinates, customers, suppliers and the general public..
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must hold a valid driver’s license.
