Summary
The Histology Technician will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. This may include logging, batching, and cutting, mounting, and staining procedures.
Hours: M-F 6:00am-2:30pm
Job Responsibilities
Perform gross pathology on skin specimens including gross description, inking when necessary, dissection and selection of appropriate tissue sections and preparation of tissue blocks.
Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in routine staining procedures and special staining procedures including control outcome. Prepare and maintain required reagents.
Perform Immunohistochemistry procedures using automated IHC stainer.
Produce high quality microscope slides following standard operating procedures.
Complete assigned tasks and daily workload; set priorities for achieving goals within designated time frame.
Assist others in completing required tasks.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use and maintenance of appropriate laboratory equipment. Recognize equipment/method problems.
Maintain log forms, schedules and records of workload/caseload.
Attend and participate in departmental meetings, continuing education and in-service programs.
Maintain work area and equipment for optimal performance and safety.
Recognize problems (e.g., stain deviations, equipment malfunction, unusual specimens, etc.) and implement solutions and/or seek assistance when necessary.
Customer Service Skills - Present a professional image. Contribute and maintain an environment that is safe and clean. Communicate with respect and understanding of differences. Take initiative and do what is needed to satisfy the customer with prompt attention to the customer and follow through.

Minimum Qualifications
Science Degree
Prior experience in medical office
Ability to learn related center tasks and be of assistance to management and physicians
Self-motivated to achieve the highest patient care and customer service standards
Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding (preferred)
Familiarity with the ModMed EMA EMR (preferred)
Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
Team player
