Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) that is master's and/or doctorally-prepared in nursing and is nationally board certified in an area of clinical expertise or specific patient population. Functioning as a leader, innovator, and change agent, this APRN strives to meet the needs of patient, family, health care system through coordinated efforts with interdisciplinary providers. The CNS advocates for and advances nursing Position Description practice through application of evidenced-based interventions in order to enhance safe patient care. Clinical Nurse Specialists have the skills and expertise to identify gaps in current practice, help design and implement cost-effective interventions, and assess and evaluate outcomes to improve overall health care delivery. This individual should provide expert consultation and educational services in specialty area to other health care providers, patients and families. Fostering communication and promoting a healthy work environment are vital to this role. In addition, this APRN assists in advancing the science of nursing practice by leading/participating in research opportunities and enhanced utilization of evidenced-base practice. The CNS advocates for the CNS role through education, promotion of policy change and practice enhancement at the organization, state, and national level and through publications and presentations of their contributions to the three spheres of influence (patient/family, nurse/nursing practice, and system).
Minimum Requirements
Master of Science in Nursing with Clinical Nurse Specialist Concentration is required.
Doctorate of Nursing Practice with CNS concentration preferred.
(The CNS concentration may be substituted for an alternate Master of Science in Nursing when accompanied by Clinical Nurse Specialist title recognition by the NC Board of Nursing or post-master's certificate with a CNS concentration.)
Pediatric/Neonatal CNS and Women's CNS:CNS concentration may be substituted for alternate Master of Science in Nursing degree with enrollment in Pediatric/Neonatal specific CNS program or an Adult CNS program (for Women's CNS ) within one year of hire and successful attainment of Pediatric/Neonatal CNS certification (Pediatric/Neonatal CNS) or Adult CNS certification (Women's CNS) from a national credentialing body approved by the NC Board of Nursing within three years of hire.
Current certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from a national credentialing body approved by the NC Board of Nursing or upon hiring completed 1 year from the hire date.
More than 4 years as a Registered Nurse required.
American Heart Association BLS Certified

This is a full-time days position, Monday - Friday. (40 hours per week, 1 FTE)
