The role
G-Research is seeking a Platform Engineer to join its growing Analytics Services Engineering team.
Our business focuses on forecasting financial markets and we use an ever-growing amount of data and processing to achieve this.
The Analytics Services Engineering team manages a significant distributed Cloudera Hadoop platform supporting Hadoop/YARN/HDFS, Spark, and Trino among other technologies, with a focus on analytics use cases at petabyte scale.
Our focus is on customer success and managing secure distributed systems at scale with robust automation and self-healing capabilities built on top of a mixture of bare metal, private and public cloud virtualization, and stateless services deployed into kubernetes.
As an Analytics Platform Engineer, you will help us to deliver integration, automation, and new feature enhancements to our existing hybrid cloud platforms.
You will also help us to research new technologies and explore opportunities with Open Source and Cloud based products while working closely with customers to ensure user focused outcomes.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Developing, deploying and maintaining distributed systems through automation.
Delivering engineering solutions ensuring they are scalable, stable, performant, and operationally efficient
Providing metrics, documentation, and self-service capabilities to help our customers work at pace and get the most out of the platforms
Proactively identifying and addressing system performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement to ensure systems are stable and robust
Participating in the out of hours rota, providing support and maintenance for our critical systems across the Analytics Services ecosystem
Who are we looking for?
Whatever your technical background, good coding ability is essential for this role.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Excellent coding skills, preferably Python
Experience with CI\CD pipelines, such as Jenkins and ArgoCD
Experience with Configuration Management tools, such as Ansible and Terraform
Experience deploying and running applications on Docker and Kubernetes, including the creation of Helm charts
Experience working with AWS deployments
Proficiency with Linux using either Centos or Ubuntu
Proficiency with computer networking fundamentals
More senior candidates may additionally have experience with:
Operating and supporting distributed analytics and stream data processing systems at scale including Spark, Trino, and Kafka
Operating and supporting Hadoop, HDFS, HIVE, OZone
Experience developing end-to-end analytics solutions
Experience with cloud-based analytics capabilities such as AWS EMR, Redshift, Kinesis, Snowflake, and Athena
