Job description/ Purpose :
The Scheduler/Planner is responsible for scheduling engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance work, and the allocation of required resources to ensure effective completion of projects within time, cost, quality, regulatory compliance, and safety requirements. Their function will play a vital role in coordinating tasks, optimizing resource usage, and mitigating potential delays.
Responsibilities
- Health, Safety, Environment and Quality and Risk
- Apply, participate and adhere to the SHEQ - Health and Safety Environment standards.
- Prepare and apply quality control.
- Conduct risk assessments, update and manage the risk register.
- Participate in accident investigations.
- Able to perform operational and systems risk analysis.
Contribution to the project management process - Develop a plan and schedule of the project business pipeline with input from Sales, Draughtsman, Buyers, Contracts, Workshop, and Site.
- Engage business on discussing and agreeing on maintenance and schedule them.
- Schedule maintenance in terms of resource allocation in coordination with the production unit.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules that outline tasks, milestones, resources, maintenance plans, manufacturing, installation, and breakdowns with cost and deadlines.
- Monitor project timelines and adjust as needed to ensure completion.
- Identify shortcomings and advise on action plans on cost-reduction efforts.
- Help develop and maintain a good working relationship with suppliers and clients.
- Understand and record risks associated with projects and assist in implementing the necessary controls to eliminate or minimize such risks.
- Provide project administration support for the project administrators.
- Ensure availability of resources allocated as per maintenance schedule.
- Randomly scrutinize job cards for work completed and re-ordered.
- Continuous updating of resources for proper work loading/scheduling.
- Collection of daily planned maintenance works orders.
- Compile training and leave schedules for foreman.
- Conduct planned tasks observations and inspections.
- Assess and monitor plans and schedules.
Lessons Learned - Conduct lessons learned on each project phase.
Reporting - Evaluate and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports of the plans and related registers and outputs.
Stakeholder Management - Work closely with Planning Manager, Project Managers, Finance Manager, Buyers, Project Coordinator, and SMEs (subject matter experts).
- Liaise with operational teams (site and workshop).
Manage documents and records - Maintain accurate project documentation such as resource plans, change orders, labour, and expenses.
- Sort and arrange project documents in a user-friendly manner.
Required Education & Qualifications
- NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate or Grade 12).
- Engineering Trade Certificate.
- Diploma or degree in project management will be advantageous.
- Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering will be advantageous.
- Code 10 Drivers License.
- Trade certificate: Mechanical fitter and Turner or Millwright.
Experience Insight
- A minimum of 10 years of experience and background in mining, rotating machinery but not limited to turbo compressors, gearboxes, turbines, fans, and manufacturing and planning.
- Experience in the African markets.
- A background or experience in the Mining Sector.
