Purpose of Job
The Miner will manage daily mining activities and the performance of their crew, ensuring that targets are met while maintaining a strong focus on safety, training, and development.
Key Accountabilities
- Production Management:
Oversee crew performance to meet production targets. Manage and monitor safety, health, and environmental issues within the section. - Crew Competence:
Ensure crew competence by identifying training needs and ensuring training is conducted. Provide coaching and development support to operators. - Safety And Compliance:
Ensure all statutory inspections, risk assessments, and safety protocols are completed. Monitor and report on safety equipment usage (e.g., PPE) and adherence to safety procedures. Conduct monthly rescue drills and oversee housekeeping practices. - Operational Excellence:
Represent the shift boss in meetings and ensure the proper transition of work between shifts. Assist in implementing continuous improvement methods and operational changes. - Resource And Material Management:
Ensure the availability of necessary materials and resources in the section. Maintain accurate records related to operators and materials. - Team Leadership:
Manage crew attendance and performance, ensuring that targets and KPIs are met. Provide timely feedback and address performance issues. - Reporting:
Submit accurate and complete reports and track compliance with standards and audits.
Requirements
Required Qualifications And Experience
- Formal Education:
National Senior Certificate or Full N3 (with Maths, English/Business English) - Valid Blasting Certificate (for Fiery Mines)
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Valid Red Ticket (or ability to obtain)
- Valid Driver's License
- Gas Testing Certificate (8 gases)
- Competent A Certificate
Experience:
At least 2+ years of relevant underground coal mining experience.

Effective teamwork and communication with crew, other miners, and management. - Decision Making:
Ability to make sound decisions based on risk management and operational needs. - Risk Management:
Implement safety and risk management policies effectively. - Troubleshooting:
Ability to resolve technical and operational issues. - Leadership And Accountability:
Manage crew performance, ensure accountability, and deliver results.
