Purpose of Job
The SHE Occ Safety Officer is responsible for coordinating and supporting health and safety activities within Sasol’s operations. This includes conducting inspections, gathering and maintaining safety data, and integrating health and safety initiatives into daily operations to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment: Conduct hazard identification, lead safety-related risk assessments, and investigate incidents. Facilitate root cause analyses (RCAs) for incidents.
- Safety Audits & Compliance: Participate in shutdown planning, service provider audits, and safety system audits (e.g., Logbook, lock-out, legal appointment audits).
- Safety Improvement Plans: Contribute to the development and roll-out of Safety Improvement Plans. Report updates as needed.
- PPE Guidance & Training: Provide advice on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in relevant forums.
- Team Development: Coach the team and others on safety, ensuring personal and team development in alignment with performance contracts.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Contribute to the review and revision of safety policies, standards, and procedures. Identify and recommend safety improvements.
Requirements
Required Qualifications And Experience
- Formal Education:
- Grade 12
- National Diploma or B Tech in Safety Management
Experience
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in safety management within an industrial environment.
Required Skills
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with teams across the business.
- SHE Integration: Integrating SHE principles into business plans and operations.
- Safety Management: Strong knowledge of safety principles, management techniques, and operational safety requirements.
- Planning & Accountability: Ability to plan, align resources, and hold the team accountable to safety standards.
- Action-Oriented: Ability to drive safety initiatives and improvements effectively.
