The South African Sugar Association (SASA) has an employment opportunity in the Procurement department, part of the Finance and Administration division, for a Procurement Manager, based in Mount Edgecombe, Durban.
The overall purpose of this role is to provide SASA with a professional procurement service, which secures purchased goods and services at optimum value and through appropriate contractual control. The Procurement Manager will also support other management initiatives in areas such as efficiency improvements, wastage control, process improvement, and planning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership and management of the procurement and supply function.
- Implementing and managing agreed procurement policies, procedures, and business strategies.
- Developing and managing a sound and cost-effective supply base.
- Conducting all procurement with the appropriate skill and integrity.
- Maintaining the procurement performance measurement systems for cost, supplier, and category performance to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
- Ensuring purchase requirements for service delivery, goods, and services are timeously and consistently available to offer high levels of customer service.
- Conducting negotiations in a professional manner.
- Assessing, managing, and mitigating risks.
- Monitoring and forecasting upcoming levels of demand.
- Identifying training needs of self and direct reports in order to ensure increased stakeholder value.
- Assisting with SASA tender process, including pre-qualification, preparation, submission, and post-tender activities.
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure clarity of specifications and expectations pertaining to both the tender process and sourcing activities.
- Management of centralized stores.
- Ensuring that sourcing activities are aligned to corporate governance and B-BBEE strategic requirements.
- Lead the identification and development of Enterprise and Development partners.
- Management of the procurement element of the B-BBEE audit.
- Management of the centralized supplier database including supplier onboarding.
Minimum Requirements:
- A recognized bachelor’s degree in supply chain management together with at least 3 years relevant hands-on experience in procurement with strategic sourcing.
- The ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures as well as recommending process improvements to current procurement policies and procedures.
- Excellent verbal communication skills coupled with proven above-average business writing skills.
- A demonstrated track record of being able to effectively lead, coach, and develop a team.
- Solid judgment with the ability to make good decisions.
- Computer literacy (a sound working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
