Strategy Engineer - Gas Distribution (Home-Based with Occasional Travel to Woolpit, Suffolk)
Role Purpose The Strategy Engineer will play a pivotal role in turning data insights into strategic business plans focused on maintaining and managing ageing gas distribution assets. Reporting to the Head of Strategy & Planning, the Strategy Engineer will utilize field data collected by asset surveyors to assess asset conditions, past performance, and risks. Their work will directly influence financial planning and maintenance strategies, ensuring compliance with gas distribution legislation and standards.
Key Responsibilities
● Analyze and interpret data from field teams to assess the condition and risk profile of gas distribution assets.
● Develop and implement short, medium, and long-term business plans for maintaining and upgrading assets.
● Work closely with costing and finance teams to secure funding for maintenance and repair projects.
● Ensure all plans are in compliance with relevant gas distribution legislation and standards.
● Propose and identify engineering solutions to resolve asset-related integrity issues.
● Use software tools, including Microsoft Office and Project, to prepare comprehensive business cases and reports. Candidate Profile
● Experience: Strong background in gas distribution, asset management, or engineering roles related to asset integrity and maintenance.
● Skills:
○ Problem-solving with a focus on solution-based planning.
○ Knowledge of gas distribution standards, legislation, and risk assessment.
○ Proficiency in data analysis and turning insights into actionable business strategies
Professional Qualifications:
EngTech certified (or actively working towards certification) with a recognized Engineering Institution.
● Career Progression: Demonstrated progress toward becoming an Authorising Engineer and/or Competent Person.
● Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of gas distribution MP & LP assets and the relationship between maintenance practices and asset integrity.
● Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders, ensuring clear and effective communication.
Role Details
● Location: Home-based with travel to Woolpit, Suffolk, twice a month.
● Salary: £42,000–£54,000 + £4,543 car allowance.
● Hours: Monday to Friday.
● On-Call Requirement: One in seven weeks (Monday to Sunday, 5:00 PM–8:00 AM) with a £350 weekly retainer
