Job Description
As a Class 1 Tramper driver, your responsibilities will include:
Making bulk collections and deliveries between various DPD sites and customers nationwide, ensuring timely and efficient transport of goods.
Operating and maintaining a modern fleet of vehicles on an agreed shift pattern, delivering palette loads to HGV-friendly locations.
Completing a minimum of 4 nights per week away from home, sleeping in your vehicle at one of our secure locations.
Covering a set region surrounding your base depot, developing a thorough understanding of the area and optimising routes for maximum efficiency.
Conducting thorough pre-trip inspections of your vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety regulations.
Accurately completing all necessary paperwork, including delivery notes, vehicle logs, and tachograph records.
Adhering strictly to driving hours regulations and taking required rest periods to maintain safety and legal compliance.
Communicating effectively with dispatch, other drivers, and customers to ensure smooth operations and resolve any issues that may arise during transit.
Handling goods with care and attention, ensuring proper loading, securing, and unloading procedures are followed at all times.
Representing DPD in a professional manner when interacting with customers, maintaining a smart appearance and courteous demeanour.
Reporting any incidents, accidents, or near-misses promptly and accurately to the appropriate personnel.
Maintaining a clean and tidy cab environment, projecting a positive image of the company and ensuring a comfortable living space during multi-day trips.
This role requires a high degree of independence, reliability, and commitment to safety and customer service. You will be a crucial link in our logistics chain, responsible for the timely and secure delivery of goods across the country.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Requirements:
The position of LGV Driver - Tramping necessitates strict adherence to regulatory standards and a commitment to professionalism. Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
Valid UK Class 1 Driving Licence: This is an absolute prerequisite for the operation of large goods vehicles.
Minimum of 12 months Class 1 experience: Extensive practical experience is crucial to ensure the safe and efficient execution of duties.
Valid UK Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Card: This certification is mandatory and demonstrates ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional competence in the transport industry.
Valid UK Digital Tachograph Card: This is essential for strict compliance with driving hours regulations and is critical for ensuring road safety.

Ability to work independently: As a tramping driver, you must be comfortable working alone for extended periods and be self-motivated.
Basic mechanical knowledge: Understanding of vehicle maintenance and the ability to perform basic checks and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
