Job description
This role is for engineers who like the challenge of working on automation, Electro/Mechanical and data acquisition systems for turnkey projects within the automotive test industry. No two projects are the same and the engineer will find great job satisfaction in delivering solutions in cutting edge automotive and industrial environments.
The company are open to a range of experience from graduates to seasoned professionals to fill this role and will provide appropriate training.
Job Responsibilities
Checking on site system electrical installations and fault finding as necessary on bespoke, one-off systems
Calibrating and setting up electronic data acquisition, electrical and mechanical systems
Setup and PID tuning of standard automotive control loops (e.g., speed, torque, temperature control etc).
Configuring the CADET V14 software to suit the provided channels and interface components
Configuring test sequences (to customer specs) within the highly flexible CADET V14 automation software
Creation/modification of system configurations and software to achieve the desired range of functionality
Working with 3rd party hardware such as inverter drives, fuel systems, safety systems, analysers etc as part of integration into test cells and facilities.
Performing test runs, gathering results
Developing automation sequences using standard CADET editor tools
Creating custom system functionality based on customer requirements
Following commissioning steps and checks
Working with customers to achieve system functionality sign off
Working with the commissioning manager and site managers to produce commissioning time schedules
Provide initial customer training in operation of the supplied system
Undertake customer service calibration, fault finding and rectification visits
Frequent work in conjunction with the in-house test department
Largely site based, both within the UK and worldwide
Customer service calls to Investigate system faults
Customer calibration/maintenance visits
Supporting both customers and overseas Sierra CP engineers with diagnostics and fault finding (phone, email and remote access)
Fault diagnostics using logged data from customer sites
Suitable candidate
Looking for a self-driven, proactive individual that has good time management skills
Electrical understanding, with ability to follow electrical drawings and diagnose issues. Ideally with a degree in engineering, or other electrical qualification. Experience in a similar roll would also be desirable
Basic understanding of pr
Programming or software development, ideally either in C# or Visual Basic and keenness to develop industrial programming skills
Knowledge of protocols such as Ethernet, Serial, Ethercat, CAN, AK protocol (over Ethernet/Serial) is useful
Good fault-finding skills to apply engineering principals to real-life problems
Understanding of the automotive industry (engines, battery tech, powertrains etc) is advantageous, but not essential
Happy to work away from home during the working week as required, with occasional overseas trips of up to 28 days. Typically, 80% site based, with on average 2-3 overseas trips per year of 2-4 weeks at a time. Engineers will spend 75-100 nights away a year. We generally use hotels if client premises are more than 90 minutes from engineers’ homes.
Good written and verbal communication skills and able to professionally communicate with clients
Familiarity with computers and Microsoft office tools are essential
Full UK driving licence and able to achieve adequate and appropriate business insurance (generally requires having held a full licence for 1+ years)

Benefits
Salary: £28,000 - £45,000 PA depending on experience
Company car allowance following successful probation completion (generally 6 months). Rate is company-wide, currently £450 PM
Overtime when working on client sites, above 39 hours per week (hours classed as door – door) or when overseas
Flexi time when office based. Core hours of 10am – 4pm Monday – Thursday, 10am – 2:30pm Friday.
Note, this is a predominantly site-based role; site hours are discussed with customers and project managers on a per project basis. The company offer flexibility around personal lives when possible, however it is generally expected that engineers will be available to work away Monday – Friday as required.

Location
The role is largely client site-based covering facilitates UK wide, with some overseas travel. There will however be a requirement for engineers to visit our office to support internal departments, work on automation software, support customer pre-acceptance testing and to pick up parts/equipment as necessary. As such engineers should be located suitably. In addition, during probation and initial training engineers will work part of the time within our test department.
The company are currently in the process of re-locating to new, larger premises in Worcester, just off Junction 6 of the M5. This move is expected to be completed before the end of 2024. Prior to this we will remain in our Malvern – Worcestershire premises (approx. 10 miles by road).
