An Engineering Company seeks a Maternity Cover Buyer to be responsible for the purchasing of materials, supplies, and services at the most favourable terms for the organization. Responsibilities include qualifying vendors, onboarding, evaluating bids, and negotiating prices and terms for purchased goods and services. The role also involves tracking purchases, monitoring vendor quality, and maintaining a current database of vendor information on SAP. Must have SAP experience on the MM module (procurement).
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Process purchasing requisitions into Purchase orders as requested on SAP.
- Evaluate suppliers and service providers in terms of supply requirements and manage supplier performance.
- Maintain close relationships with key suppliers; align in meetings and keep records in emails.
- Prepare a comparative chart for all large purchases and share it with the department head.
- Inform the respective departments of lead time, price offered, and approval of supplier.
- Investigate any deviations where such has occurred due to price, legislation, procedures, and rules.
- Follow up or expedite orders as necessary to meet production schedules.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives and ensure that goods are always bought at a reasonable price.
- In charge of the vendor loading process on SAP.
- Inform management of any challenges in the supply chain that can impact the flow of supply chain to the business.
- Ensure that BBBEE administration is done, and certificates are up to date on a quarterly basis.
- Ensure compliance with the BBBEE strategy and framework in the procurement process.
- Sourcing suitable suppliers to fulfil the demands of internal customers.
- Input supplier master data on SAP and update regularly as required.
Specialized Knowledge and Training in:
- Training in dealing with Suppliers & Service providers.
- Training related to dealing with clearing and forwarding agents.
- Training in supply chain processes on SAP.
- Knowledge of supplier sourcing.
- Training in Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel skills.
Experience:
- At least 4 years practical workplace experience in SAP, specifically in the SAP MM modules (Material movement + purchasing module) is a prerequisite.
- Experience in purchasing and logistics in steel manufacturing and/or engineering industries.
- At least 4 years experience in dealing with Suppliers & Service providers.
- At least 4 years experience in dealing with clearing and forwarding agents.
