Jackpersad & Partners are the largest independent Radiology Group in KZN providing advanced radiological imaging.
We are looking for a professional and competent Sonographer for our EThekwini Venue , based at Lenmed EThekwini Hospital & Heart Centre. The Sonographer’s primary function is to perform ultrasound procedures, with a particular focus on complex and interventional work, providing direct care and high-quality diagnostic imaging service to the radiologists, patient and referring doctors.
The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience as a Sonographer
- National Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography: Ultrasound/ BHSc (Diagnostic Sonography)
- HPCSA Registered (Independent Practice)
- Ensure achievement of CPD compliance
- Ability to work during weekends or at night (when on call)
- Ability to travel to cover shifts at other venues within KZN
- Provide relief at venues when required due to short staff (emergencies, leave etc.)
- The physical stamina necessary to stand for long periods of time and lift patients who need help moving
- Experience using ultrasound imaging equipment to scan:
- Scan patients to obtain images using Real Time, Doppler and Colour Doppler imaging
- Scan abdomen & pelvis (adults and children)
- Scan small parts: soft tissue upper limb, soft tissue lower limb, scrotum and testis, orbits, soft tissue neck inclu. salivary glands, thyroid glands, parotid glands, breast, penile
- Vascular: carotid arteries, upper limb arterial, lower limb arterial, upper limb venous, lower limb venous, renal artery doppler
- Muscular skeletal ultrasound: shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle, hip joint, hand and finger, foot toes
- Paediatric: cranial, abdomen and pelvis, hip joint
- Biopsies: breast, liver, renal, thyroid, soft tissue lesions, pleural tap, ascitic tap/ drainages
- Joint infiltration: shoulder and hip, barbotage
Duties:
- Explain procedures to patients and answer all questions
- Apply radiological protocols and policies formulated by JPI
- Contribute towards student training and continuous professional development
- Selecting and examining images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determining if the scope of the exam should be extended, based on preliminary findings
- Timeous presentation of imaging and interpretation notes for reporting
- Provide preliminary ultrasound reports
- Completing the appropriate documentation and maintaining patients’ histories and medical records
- Perform abdomen; small parts; vascular; cranial; hip; obstetric; muscular skeletal; basic cardiac ultrasound scans
- Assist Radiologists during invasive procedures such as liver, breast, kidney biopsies and ascitic and pleural tapping and interventional procedures. Including preparing slides, completing lab forms, safe disposal of biomedical waste, follow up post procedure forms and specimen handling
- Dealing with demanding and often unpredictable workload
- Accuracy and dexterity are needed to position patients
- Willingness to assist with patient experience within the radiological environment including assisting patients with preparation, explaining procedures, completion of pre-procedure forms, obtaining consent and ensuring patient safety and comfort is maintained, preparing slides and completing lab forms
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies and to prevent the spread of infections
- Ensure a hygienic ultrasound room including maintaining and cleaning sonographic equipment
- Ability to conduct quality control tests on equipment
- Daily equipment checks and report immediately to the Venue Manager if damage is detected
