We are seeking an enthusiastic, polite, confident, resilient and organised individual to join the ENT Outpatient Service as a Staff Nurse. You will be expected to have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the numerous patients that visit outpatients daily.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of clinical duties as delegated by the OPD Sister or Staff Nurse in Charge, putting the patient first. You will be expected to record any care or intervention you provide as delegated by the OPD Sister/Nurse in Charge. The ability to work at pace, following advice and instruction outlined by medical and/or senior nursing staff is essential. You should be able to work alone or as part of a team within your NMC Code of Practice.

Previous experience in an acute hospital setting/outpatient is an advantage.

Main duties of the job

You will support outpatients, focusing on working in clinics to assist patients during their outpatient journey. Duties include welcoming patients to the clinic, explaining who they will see, performing any baseline observations requested by the clinician, being a chaperone, and ensuring that the clinic starts and finishes on time. You will be expected to be competent with using information technology as you will work with electronic patient records. You will also undertake the coordination of clinics, appropriate delegation, and responsibilities for patient safety during a range of diagnostic procedures.

Previous experience of ENT would be advantageous.

You will be expected to work across the sites of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, both at Huddersfield and Calderdale.

Job responsibilities

Provide a high standard of individualised compassionate care to patients, while maintaining their privacy and dignity.
Assist the OPD Manager in the efficient running of medical outpatient clinics.
Coordinate the clinics to ensure that patients visiting the outpatient area receive a first-class service.
Support patients visiting the outpatient setting; ensuring that they are kept updated and informed with their progress and explanations provided regarding any next steps through the service.

Provide care for patients who attend the outpatient department and for their carers within the recognized framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Calderdale & Huddersfield Foundation Trust policies, and Health & Safety legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

NMC Registered Nurse in relevant field of practice
Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor qualification or willingness to complete
Additional post-registration qualification relevant to field of practice
Evidence of continuing professional development
Role Specific Training relevant to specialty of the post
Teaching Qualification
Leadership Qualification

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Knowledge and skill to plan, deliver, and evaluate high quality, evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients within the specialty of the post
Experience of working with patients, and those that matter to them, from a range of diverse cultures and backgrounds
Experience of working as part of a team, with the ability to prioritize own workload.
Knowledge and skill in infection prevention and control principles and procedures
Knowledge and skill in safeguarding principles and procedures
IT literacy and ability to use NHS systems
Competence in specialty or role specific extended skills required of the post or willingness to undertake necessary training.
Clinical experience in the specialty of the post
Skills in research and audit methodology and application of findings to practice
Evidence of introducing change and innovation into nursing practice
Recent relevant experience working in an outpatient setting
