- Quality Site Supervisor / Customer Rep
Responsible for overseeing the quality control processes specific to the inspection, rework , and testing of automotive components. This includes ensuring that all components meet the required industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
Work Specifications: - Quality Control and Inspection :
- Supervise and coordinate the inspection of automotive components during various stages of production, ensuring they meet specified quality standards.
- Perform visual inspections, measurements, and tests on automotive parts (e.g., engines, transmission systems, electrical components, body parts) to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Identify non-conformities in parts or components and take corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Ensure that inspection processes, including testing, are aligned with industry standards such as IATF 16949 (for automotive quality management systems).
Process Monitoring and Reporting :
- Monitor the manufacturing or assembly processes to ensure that quality control processes are consistently applied.
- Document inspection results, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions. Report any issues to the relevant departments for resolution.
- Ensure proper traceability of inspected parts, maintaining detailed records of inspection reports and test results.
- Analyze trends in quality issues and report these to management, suggesting possible improvements.
Collaboration with Production and Engineering Teams :
- Work closely with production, engineering, and design teams to understand specifications and ensure the production of components that meet the required quality standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and problem-solving.
- Facilitate meetings or discussions to review quality issues, provide feedback on improvements, and update teams on quality expectations.
Testing and Validation :
- Oversee or directly conduct functional testing, durability testing, and other specific tests on automotive components.
- Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and in good working condition.
- Validate the performance of components against industry specifications and customer requirements.
Training and Development :
- Provide training and guidance to quality inspectors, production workers, and other relevant personnel on best practices for quality control and inspection techniques.
- Assist in developing training materials related to quality assurance and inspection processes for automotive components.
Compliance with Industry Standards :
- Ensure that all quality control processes adhere to both local and international automotive industry standards (such as ISO 9001 , and IATF 16949 ).
- Ensure compliance with South African regulatory requirements for automotive manufacturing and component inspection.
- Enforce adherence to environmental and health and safety standards on the production floor.
Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing :
- Assist in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives such as Six Sigma , Lean Manufacturing , or Kaizen within the inspection and production processes.
- Provide feedback to management on areas for improvement, such as reducing defects, improving production efficiency, or enhancing quality processes.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring quality issues.
Qualifications: - Educational Qualifications :
- A National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is generally required.
- Additional qualifications in Quality Management , Automotive Engineering , or Quality Assurance (e.g., ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 certifications) are advantageous.
Work Experience :
- 3-5 years of experience in a quality control or quality assurance role, specifically in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
- Experience with automotive components inspection and familiarity with production processes, materials, and standards.
- Prior experience in supervisory roles or managing teams of quality inspectors in the automotive industry is highly desirable.
Key Skills :
- In-depth knowledge of automotive components , including their design, functionality, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in the use of measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometres, gauges, etc.), testing equipment , and quality control software.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, Six Sigma, or equivalent).
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and resolve quality issues effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting issues and providing guidance to team members and stakeholders.
Certifications and Training :
- ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is a plus.
- First Aid and Health and Safety certification may be required depending on the work environment.
