Job Overview:
Boston Scientific is seeking an experienced Senior Business Development Specialist to join our Interventional Oncology team. The successful candidate will drive growth, strategic partnerships, and market expansion for our portfolio of innovative products, including Cryoablation, TheraSphere (Y-90 microspheres), and embolization therapies. This role will focus on identifying new business opportunities, forging relationships with key stakeholders, and expanding market penetration within the oncology space.
The Senior Business Development Specialist for Interventional Oncology will play a pivotal role in driving growth and expanding Boston Scientific's market presence in South Africa across the Cryoablation, TheraSphere, and Embolisation portfolios. This individual will act as a key technical and commercial resource, collaborating closely with healthcare providers to enhance treatment outcomes in oncology. The role is responsible for increasing the number of patients treated with the Boston Scientific Interventional Oncology (IO) portfolio and in so doing increasing the market share of these franchise products throughout the assigned territory, while developing and leveraging relationships with medical Key Opinion Leaders/Hospital administration & medical societies. In addition, this role is responsible, together with the Marketing Manager, for developing education and training programs for physicians and hospital staff on franchise product line including patient identification, patient referral, implant, and follow-up procedures. This person is accountable for the achievement of sales goals (growth). They are expected to assist in growing the therapy and product knowledge in all medical sectors, they need to support patient identification and support the best treatment for all patients. The role requires a strong background in radiation therapy and oncology, with expertise in the interpretation of scans, radiation treatment techniques, and personalized dosimetry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Management: Drive the commercial growth of the Cryoablation, TheraSphere, and Embolisation product lines by identifying new business opportunities and managing existing accounts in the South African market.
- Technical Expertise & Support: Provide expert-level guidance on the application, usage, and benefits of interventional oncology products. Offer technical support for physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring optimal product usage.
- Product Education: Deliver training and education on radiation therapy techniques, personalized dosimetry, and the safe use of radioactive materials associated with Boston Scientific’s products.
- Market Insights & Strategy Development: Conduct market analysis to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive activity. Develop and execute business development strategies tailored to the South African healthcare market.
- Clinical Liaison: Act as a liaison between clinical teams, sales teams, and leadership to ensure alignment of product offerings with the latest clinical guidelines and research in oncology.
- Relationship Building: Foster and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare institutions, and regulatory bodies. Build a strong network in the oncology space to support business growth and influence decision-making.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards, particularly regarding the handling and use of radioactive materials. Work closely with regulatory agencies to ensure product compliance within the South African market.
- Sales Support: Collaborate with the sales team to identify high-value opportunities, assist with sales presentations, and support the conversion of leads into successful customer engagements.
- Clinical Data and Outcomes: Stay informed on the latest clinical research and outcomes related to Cryoablation, TheraSphere, and Embolisation. Communicate evidence-based data to clients to support product adoption and usage.
- Cross-function Collaboration: Collaborate with HEMA to remove barriers in accounts, cooperation with HS&P on account level, e.g., introduction and implementation of tools, e.g., Patient Identification.
Key Requirements:
Education:
- A degree in Radiation Therapy, Medical Physics, Oncology, or a related field is required.
- Additional qualifications or certifications related to interventional oncology or radioactive materials handling would be advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the oncology field, with a focus on interventional therapies, radiation therapy, or medical device sales.
- Strong background in interpreting medical scans (CT, MRI, PET, etc.) and understanding imaging modalities as they relate to interventional oncology treatments.
- Experience with the use of radioactive materials and personalized dosimetry, particularly in the context of oncology.
Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of oncology treatments, particularly in the areas of ablation, liver cancer therapies (such as SIRT/TARE), and embolization procedures.
- Familiarity with dosimetric principles, including the use of personalized treatment plans for radiation therapy.
- Strong understanding of South African healthcare regulations and the business landscape.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and credibility with healthcare professionals and business partners.
- A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality service and patient outcomes.
Preferred:
- Experience in the South African or broader African medical device market.
- Advanced understanding of clinical trials, medical research, and evidence-based medicine in the context of oncology.
- Multilingual skills are a plus, with the ability to communicate in both English and local languages.
