Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Master’s and PhD teaching, including supervision.
Research: Conduct research, postgraduate supervision of research master’s and PhD students; apply for funding for research projects; initiate and maintain national and international networks; participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals; ensure effective research administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Postgraduate Teaching and Learning
Involvement in teaching activities in the faculty including supervision, critical reading, examination, moderation, and any other responsibility as required. Active participation in the postgraduate research methodology workshops. - Academic leadership, management and administration
Involvement in administration and management responsibilities. Participation in leadership roles within the faculty, membership in faculty committees as and when required, administration and service to the university by serving on institutional structures. Active participation in attending Faculty research initiatives such as writing retreats. Mentor to emerging and established scholars. - Social responsiveness and industry involvement
Sharing of expertise and service to the scientific community. Involvement in community engagement and social cohesion, including media commentary, serving on review structures inside and outside the faculty/university, promotion of the university image and internationalization. - Personal research, innovation and/or creative outputs
Conducting own research which fits into the faculty’s focus areas. Creative research output in accordance with the level of appointment. This includes publication, conference attendance and presentation, workshops, and colloquia.
Minimum Requirements
- A PhD or LLD (NQF Level 10) in any field of law.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ postgraduate student supervision experience.
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ work experience in academia.
- Peer-reviewed (and preferably accredited) publications.

- Knowledge of software programs for qualitative/quantitative analyses
- Expert knowledge of Law
- Knowledge of research administration

- Good presentation skills (for conferences and workshops)
