About the role
The purpose of a marketing intern position is to provide support in executing various projects, campaigns, events, and daily activities that contribute to the overall growth and visibility of the company. This role offers hands-on experience and exposure to different aspects of marketing, including social media management, content creation, event planning, market research, and data analysis. The intern assists with tasks such as drafting communications, organizing and promoting events, monitoring trends, engaging with audiences, and analyzing campaign performance, all while developing essential skills in digital marketing, communication, and event coordination. By working on events, the intern will gain experience in planning logistics, coordinating with vendors, and promoting events to drive attendance and engagement.
Responsibilities
Content Creation and Management
- Assist in creating engaging and brand-appropriate content for social media, blog posts, emails, and other communication channels.
- Design and draft marketing materials, including visuals and written content, using design tools and templates.
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule across platforms.
Social Media Management - Manage social media accounts by scheduling posts, responding to comments, and engaging with followers.
- Monitor social media trends and propose creative ideas to improve engagement.
- Track social media metrics and prepare reports to evaluate campaign performance.
Event Planning and Coordination - Help organize company events, including planning logistics, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring smooth execution.
- Assist in promoting events through various channels to maximize attendance and participation.
- Support on-site event activities, such as setting up, managing registrations, and engaging with attendees.
Market Research and Analysis - Conduct research on market trends, competitors, and audience preferences to inform marketing strategies.
- Collect and analyze data from campaigns to measure their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Summarize findings and share actionable insights with the marketing team.
Campaign Support - Assist in executing marketing campaigns, including email marketing, paid ads, and influencer partnerships.
- Monitor campaign progress and provide regular updates to the team.
- Help refine campaigns based on data-driven feedback and analysis.
Administrative Support - Maintain marketing databases and update contact lists as needed.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining files, reports, and marketing materials.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare presentations, and provide general administrative support to the marketing team.
Audience Engagement - Respond to audience inquiries and comments on social media and other channels.
- Foster a positive community around the brand by engaging with followers and encouraging user-generated content.
- Track and report on audience sentiment and feedback.
Professional Development - Participate in training sessions, workshops, and team meetings to build marketing and communication skills.
- Stay updated on the latest marketing tools, trends, and best practices.
- Contribute innovative ideas and perspectives to the team to enhance marketing initiatives.
Requirements
Matric
Diploma in Marketing, Digital Marketing, or Communication.
South African unemployed youth aged between 18 and 34.
Must not have taken part in the YES Program before.
Familiarity with social media: Experience using major social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) and an understanding of how each platform functions
Basic Computer skills: Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
