The Infrastructure and Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University’s infrastructure. Applications are invited for dynamic, motivated individuals with general building technical skills and knowledge who will be reporting to the Manager: Precinct to assist with maintenance, general facilities management, and administration.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administrative:
- Maintain relevant and up-to-date records of all precinct requirements
- Maintain a drawing and specification register
- Maintain asset inventory
- Log utilities of building and tenants
- General administrative assistance to the Precinct Manager
- Raise and close Job Cards
- General maintenance/handyman function to quickly analyse and solve maintenance issues
- Communicate effectively with Precinct Manager and the stakeholder community to ensure optimal building performance
- Source parts, spares, and services
- Coordinate and monitor outsourced services
- Conduct regular inspections, and report on building services: electrical, plumbing and drainage, wet fire, compressed air lines, vacuum lines, smoke extraction systems, gas suppression systems, lifts, plant rooms, pumps, fire equipment, storage tanks, UPS, generator, etc.
- Report on snags, issues and items affecting building condition and performance
- Conduct weekly utility meter readings
- Assist the Precinct Manager to investigate and keep up to date with new products and technology which can assist the organisation to reduce costs and improve service
- Ensure employees, buildings and equipment meet the relevant safety requirements in terms of the OHS Act and any other relevant regulations
Consequently you essentially require:
- Senior Certificate
- Trade Certification from a recognised Trade School/College
- 2 years' experience in general maintenance (Electrical, plumbing, carpentry and building maintenance experience, including experience with hand and power tools)
- A valid driver’s licence (code EB) – with two years driving experience
- Ability to work without supervision
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Good knowledge of health & safety requirements in the workplace
