Research Technologist (S) - Research Assistant
Duration: One-Year Contract
The South African Medical Research Council, Gender and Health Research Unit (GHRU) requires suitably qualified and experienced Research Technologist (S) - Research Assistant to coordinate our disability and SRHR-related research and training projects.
Responsibilities:
- Providing administrative support to the study investigator
- Supporting project coordination
- Administering registration/reimbursement of participants
- Administering informed consent
- Screening/enrolling as per protocol
- Conducting surveys or facility assessments – quantitative data entry
- Conducting in-depth interviews
- Facilitating focus group discussions
- Translating and back-translation of documents
- Updating of study logs and management of source documentation
- Conducting routine maintenance of interview equipment and reporting on instrument failure
- Conducting external interactions for study updates and quality of data
- Participating in conference calls for study updates and quality control as per protocol
- Supporting coding and analysis
- Supporting report writing
- Supporting community engagement with persons with disabilities
Core Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, education, psychology, disability studies, or similar field
- 1-2 years’ experience in research, social sciences, or related environment
- 1 year’s experience using qualitative or quantitative methods for data collection
- Experience working with people with disabilities
- Transcription and translation skills
- Data collection experience either qualitative or quantitative
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experience using data entry tools such as RedCap, Kobotoolbox, etc.
Advantageous:
- Any experience greater than that which is stated above

The level of appointment will be subject to the applicant meeting the criteria for the various levels.
A salary in the region of R 293 027 per annum, cost-to-company will be offered dependent on qualifications and research experience.
