The Client
Datacenter People has been instructed by a leading provider of technology managed services and smart building solutions for data centers and critical workspaces.
What The Job Involves
- Perform and deliver patching and jumpering on infrastructure frames.
- Provide 1st and 2nd line fault finding diagnosis and fixing of SCS and Switch Connectivity.
- Conduct infrastructure testing with Fluke test equipment and management software (Linkware) and ensure compliance with manufacturer, customer and published standards.
- Provide LAN technology support, with the ability to configure IP addresses on devices.
- Coordinate and deliver Data Centre moves, including decommissioning, recommissioning, and testing equipment.
- Interact with end users to diagnose issues and to understand their specific requirements.
- Liaise directly with the Client to ensure that projects are meeting requirements and being delivered within the agreed timeframe.
- Supervise onsite teams for installation purposes.
- Report on progress and any issues affecting the work to relevant managers, both internal and external, using designated systems and agreed processes.
- Act as a single point of contact for IT equipment moves.
- Facilitate communication between various stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to ensure the successful delivery of moves and support.
- Complete accurate, timely documentation and provide appropriate certification to the Client.
- Survey, quote, and plan installations/projects on a small to medium scale in line with Client requests.
- Comply with Risk Assessment, Method Statement (RAMS) and on-site Health and Safety requirements.
- Work from construction drawings, diagrams and schematics, scopes and specifications, ensuring responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974; in particular, the need to take care of own health and safety in the workplace, whilst also being responsible for those that might be affected by own actions.
We’re Looking for Someone With
- Understand the basic elements of IT network architecture, including the range of cable types and networking equipment.
- Understand the test parameters for copper and fibre cable certification in accordance with appropriate industry standards, e.g., BSEN 50346 – Information Technology-Testing of Installed Cables, the routine for test equipment service and calibration.
- Understand the types of health and safety risk that could be incurred whilst carrying out cabling connectivity tasks, who might be affected by the risk, and what actions can be taken to mitigate the risk.
- Familiar with the concept of the ‘internet of things’ (IoT) and the effects of emerging technologies on media selection, installation practices, and additional testing requirements.
- Familiar with the structural components of equipment racks/cabinets and how to assemble them to meet the requirements of the infrastructure design.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to communicate effectively with colleagues and key stakeholders in the customer’s organisation.
- Understand the need to maintain accurate documentation and the depth of information required for successful completion and handover to the Client.
- Good MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams etc.) and general IT skills.
- Ability to follow clear directions and work in accordance with agreed processes.
- Use literacy and numeracy skills to quantify requirements and timelines for tasks to be carried out.
- Follow best technical practices to maintain quality standards whilst meeting agreed timescales.
- Interpret detailed project plans to construct and fix network equipment cabinets, prepare cable pathways, and install cable support and containment systems.
- Proficient in the use of testing equipment, including OTDR and Fluke DTX 5000.
- Comply with Risk Assessment, Method Statement (RAMS) and on-site Health and Safety requirements.
- Reduce the danger of working in confined spaces by implementing appropriate health and safety procedures, using and maintaining personal protective equipment.
- A valid ECS/CSCS Card.
- A relevant qualification, e.g., CNet CNCI, CNet CNIT, BICSI Installer Level 2/3 or a recognised equivalent.
- At least 3 years' relevant practical experience in a similar role.
- Experience installing mainstream copper and fibre ICT cabling systems.
- General understanding and knowledge of Data Center Services.
