Hatch is seeking an Intermediate BMH Engineer to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG), to be based in our office in Greenstone Hill, Johannesburg.
The position requires a person with a suitable tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering. The incumbent will have both design office and field experience in bulk material handling technologies and equipment. A good understanding and appreciation of safety and quality aspects of design is essential. The successful candidate will also require knowledge of different material types and their behaviour in different conditions for plant and equipment design.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementation of detail design projects including calculations for conveyors, belt feeders, bins, and hoppers, and other bulk materials handling equipment.
- Participation in site-based project activities, responsibility for safe design, quality of deliverables, and participation in the evaluation of new BMH technology and equipment.
- Maintaining a high level of knowledge of professional and technical BMH developments, preparation of procurement documents including specifications, scope of work, data sheets, and package management of procurement packages.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- The incumbent will need to be in possession of a Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3+ years experience in BMH.
- The incumbent should be a candidate registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
- The incumbent needs to be conversant with technologies used in the bulk material handling industry.
- Materials handling experience – both in a design office and on site.
- Excellent communication and people skills are required as this role must provide service to, and influence customers as well as internal stakeholders (local & global) without line authority.
- Experience in all stages of engineering – from concept studies to detailed design, installation, and commissioning.
- Analytical and design skills.
- Understanding and appreciation of safety and quality aspects of design.
- Conveyor software experience.
